The Virginia Regiment of Militia was founded in 1776 as a militia to support the British government. The regiment saw service in the American Revolution, and was disbanded in 1802. In 1812, the Virginia State Legislature created the 1st Infantry Regiment of riflemen to serve temporarily in time of war with Canada. This regiment was mustered into service on October 27, 1812, and served through the War of 1812. The regiment was disbanded by order of Brigadier General John Burgoyne on December 3, 1814. In 1861, Confederate forces occupied Fort Sumter in South Carolina. On April 12, 1861, Confederate soldiers attacked and captured Union troops at Fort Sumter. As a result of this attack, four Ulysses S. Grant infantry regiments were ordered from Louisville Kentucky to reinforce Confederate forces at Fort Sumter. These units were redesignated as the 1st Virginia Infantry Regiment and served under Confederate General Pemberton until November 10th when they were withdrawn for lack of supplies and reinforcements. 1st VIRGINIA IRREGULAR NOVEMBER 10TH 1862 On November 10th 1862 two companies detached from their battalion at Fortress Monroe Va went over to duty with Gen Pemberton's brigade under Col Stoneman commanding detachment #2 & Capt Aiken commanding detachment #3

The British Army was founded in 1707 and the first troops were stationed in Virginia on April 14, 1707. The British Army fought various Indian Wars over the next few years and eventually became part of the British Crown. Over time, the army grew larger and more professional. In 1832, the army moved from its original location in Virginia to Fort McHenry in Baltimore Maryland. The fort served as a training ground for future military leaders and also hosted other events such as balls and fireworks displays. In 1944, Fort McHenry was turned into a museum dedicated to the history of the American Revolution.
The Colony of Colonial Heights was founded in 1655, by English settlers. The land that now forms the city of Colonial Heights was donated to the colony by King George II of England. In 1754, the town was set off from Alexandria and named for General James Moncrief, who fought in the American Revolution. In 1801, a new county was created out of part of Prince William County and colonial lands were divided between the two counties. Colonial Heights became part of Fairfax County in 1848. During the Revolutionary War, General James Moncrief estimated that there were over 100,000 British troops stationed in Virginia at the time. The city formed an important staging ground for battle; it saw action at Saratoga and Yorktown. When hostilities ended in 1783, many British soldiers retreated to Maryland and Virginia while their Loyalist counterparts continued to occupy Kinston and other parts of Northern Virginia. colonial heights virginia

Yes Please! As wars continued to rage throughout centuries, it became increasingly important for commanders and officers to receive personalized gifts in order to express their affectionate thoughts towards their troops. Some commanders even went so far as to create unique mugs or bowls just for their troops! It wasn’t until World War II that we started seeing standardized Gift Certificates which could be redeemed by individuals who wished to make a special gift for someone in uniform (or anyone else). The Colony of Colonial Heights was founded in 17th century by English colonists. The area now known as Colonial Heights was part of the original Yorktown Peninsula, which became a part of Virginia after the American Revolution. After the war, much of this peninsula was ceded to the Commonwealth of Virginia and then to Maryland. In 1777, British forces besieged and captured Fort McHenry, giving rise to the American War for Independence. The fort played an important role in the Battle of Monmouth on April 14, 1778; despite inflicting heavy losses on British forces, the Americans emerged victorious and were able to drive all British prisoners from colonial territory. After independence was gained, Colonial Heights became a part of Fairfax County in Northern Virginia. During its time as part of Fairfax County, it experienced several waves of immigration from Europe: many Germans, Irishmen and Frenchmen who came during times of economic prosperity; also African Americans who arrived after Reconstruction ended following Civil War. In 1871, when Fairfax County merged with Loudoun County to form Prince William county (nowVA), Colonial Heights reverted back to its previous name - though it remains unincorporated today. Throughout its history as a community within Fairfax County or Prince William county- there has been no lack local interest or activism in preserving historic properties and landmarks within its boundaries - including two large commercial areas that have been preserved since 1978: Crystal City Shopping Center eastward along I-495 towards Alexandria (the first shopping center built in Alexandria) and Chantilly Mall westward along I-495 towards Pentagon/Chantilly (the last shopping center built in Arlington). In recent years there has also been some movement towards developing land adjacent to both malls intohistoric neighborhoods specificto their respective districts; however these efforts are still at an early stage and do not seem likely to gain wide support over time.
