The Hopewell National Guard was organized on February 15, 1861 in response to the March 1861 Confederate Attack on Fort Sumter. The unit was created as a result of the Union-Virginia Agreement of 1874 and consisted of men from both Virginia and West Virginia. The guard was disbanded on May 14, 1865 due to lack of equipment and manpower. The Hopewell National Guard Museum is located in downtown Hopewell and contains artifacts from the guard's history including uniforms, firearms, and other related items. The museum also has a library which offers research services for those interested in national guard history.

Hopewell is a small town in Loudoun County, Virginia. The population was 1,912 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Hopewell is located on the Potomac River and is bordered by Fairfax County to the north, Prince William County to the east, and Loudoun County to the south. The first permanent settler in Hopewell was John Hopkins who arrived in 1786 from Massachusetts. He built a cabin on what is now Main Street and named it Hopkins Station after himself and his son-in-law Samuel Hopkinson (1753-1827). The earliest known record of trade between Hopewell and Washington Crossing occurred on February 3, 1789 when Nathaniel Bacon purchased goods from John Hopkins for $5 sterling. In 1810 James Hardee founded a small community called Springfields near present day Arlington National Cemetery which he named Hardee's Mills after himself and his wife Esther Hardee (1774-1851). In 1815 George Stephenson opened an iron works at Point Lookout on the Potomac River which produced nails for use around Washington DC until 1830 when production switched to steel making at nearby blast furnaces operated by Carnegie Steel Corporation. Many of these early settlers are buried in Hopewell Cemetery including many Revolutionary War veterans such as General Nathanael Greene (1737-1800) who died during the Battle of Saratoga while commandeering an American cannon from British forces that had captured it earlier that year. With this new industry came increased social tensions with workers living together out of their cars or trucks rather than locallyprocured housing; fires often ravaged local businesses resulting in loss of life or serious damage; two major accidents involving large numbers of workers killed within months eachin 1922 and 1926 left townspeople wondering if anything could be done about improving safety conditions inside factories where they workedahalf a century later! By 1930s most people had either moved away or retired leaving only a few elderly residents remaining behind including Mrs Jane Witherspoon Baird (b 1870), one hundred years old when she passed away in 2006; her husband Hume Baird (b 1865) also still living well over 100 years ago! On September 25, 1792, President George Washington signed legislation creating a national guard with jurisdiction over all military forces within the United States. At first, only men were enlisted in these troops; women were not allowed to serve as officers or privates until 1907. The role of the National Guard has evolved over time and across different states. Today’s Guardsmen play an important role in society by providing essential security for citizens and stopping crime while also upholding our Constitution and laws.

Hopewell is a small town in Fauquier County, Virginia, United States. The population was 1,653 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Alexandria–Falls Church–Norfolk Micropolitan Statistical Area. Hopewell is located on the Rappahannock River and has a humid subtropical climate. The first Europeans to visit Hopewell were French traders in 1607 when they explored the area as part of their trade with England. The town was founded by James Oglethorpe on November 3, 1753 as a trading post on the Rappahannock River between Prince George's County and Fairfax County. In 1814, it was renamed for General James Oglethorpe who had died that year in battle at Monacacy Mountain near Fredericksburg. The town experienced growth during the American Revolution and then during Reconstruction following the end of slavery in America. During World War II, Hopewell became an important strategic location for development in southeastern Virginia due to its position on Route 64 which connected Norfolk Naval Shipyard with Richmond and Washington D.C.. Hopewell experiences significant flooding each year due to rains or snowmelt from nearby mountain ranges or rainstorms that move downriver into central Virginia. One such event occurred on December 5, 1984 when water levels reached above average along both banks of the Rappahannock River just south of Hopewell Village
Hopewell was founded in 1757 by Captain John Hopewell and his wife, Sarah. The town was named after the Hopewells' home at Hopetown on the Susquehanna River. The first settler in Hopewell was Captain George Mason, who built a log cabin in 1758. By 1760, there were six households living in the town. In that year, Captain John Hopkins organized a militia to protect settlers from Indian attacks. The town's first school opened in 1762. In 1768,Captain John Hopkins died and his widow took over leadership of the township. She madedrew up funds to build a new school building which opened in October of that year. In 1802, Captain John Sargent erected a large Greek Revival style house in what is now Hopewell Township. He served as its proprietor until his death in 1813. That same year, Colonel Augustus Ewing donated land to the township for use as an agricultural farmstead known as "Ewing's Crossing." After Colonel Ewing's death, his son-in-law James McDowell took over ownership of the farmstead and continued to operate it until 1865 when it became part of the Wilson family estate upon their purchase of the estate from Mr. Jekyll and Mrs Hyde Wilson A post office called Hopewell was established in 1822, and remained open until 1912 . The community experienced significant growth following World War I when demand for goods produced by American manufacturers increased throughout Europe . Many hop farms were constructed withinHopewell during this time . At some point between 1928 and 1932 ,Hopewell had 4 churches with services conducted each day: First Baptist (1828), Methodist (1832), Presbyterian (1834), and Baptists (1930). A Catholic church service may have been held also during this time though no records exist to support this claim
