There is no question that Virginia Beach has been a coffee mecca for years. The city’s coffee history can be traced back to the early 1800s, when American coffee growers started farming in the area. By 1850, coffee was being grown throughout much of Virginia and it was soon becoming popular as a beverage. In 1869, two Dutchmen, Johannes van der Kamp and Hendrik de Vries, founded the now defunct Van Kamp Coffee Company in Virginia Beach. The company became one of the most successful in its day and exported its beans all over the world. The early 1900s were a time of technological innovation for coffee brewers and this led to an increase in quality and variety of craft coffees being produced in Virginia Beach. One such pioneer was Harry Aiken who invented the first automatic drip brewer in 1925. Other notable brewers during this time include Joe Gibbs & Sons (1930-1968), Burns Coffee (1932-1997), Admiral Brewing Company (1973-1996), Blue Moon Brewery (1977-present) and Eartha Roasts (1986-present). Today, there are many talented roasters operating within the Charlottesville/Vienna area including Four Roses Coffee Roasters (2006- present), Stumptown Coffee Roasters(1999-2008), Dark Horse Coffee(1994-) and Norfolk Southern Railway Coffeeworks(1945-) which produces some of the highest quality cup of java around!

The first coffee house in Virginia Beach, then known as Portsmouth, was opened by Nicholas-Jacques Conte in 1795. The town's first coffeehouse was located on the corner of Third and Main Streets. In 1825, the first store in town was established by J.B. Nichols and Sons. The business operated continuously until 1922 when it closed due to a lack of customers. The last customer at Nichols' store was Mrs. Hannon on January 3, 1922. After that date, the store operated as a gas station until it closed in 1951. In 1850, John Rector opened a general store at Sixth and Market Streets which became one of the most popular tourist spots in town because of its easy access to food and drink for visitors from all over Great Britain and Ireland during their visits to Virginia Beach. Additionally, the Rector Storeadded an important aspect to the early history of town because it served as boththe local post office (1851) andinitially housed local merchants who bought goods used or secondhand from other businesses within Portsmouth limits. By 1865,Rector had also built a two story brick building on Fourth Street which served as home court for both heand his wife while they resided in Petersburg at this time; anotherimportant development from this period is that Portsmouth began having its own school district (1864). By 1870Rector had again constructed a two story brick building with associated outbuildings on Fifth Street which served as homecourt for him only while he residedin Petersburg; however his widow continued to use this building intermittently thereafter (being particularlyhospitable towards girls). After John Rector's death in 1875, his son-in-law Wm Cranch took over operationsof the shop after he moved back toVirginia Beach permanently from Richmond around that time - continuing what would eventually becomeCranch's long running business operation withinVVBtown through various changes including name changes (1906 – present day)and numerous expansions/improvements throughout its years of operation WhileWm Cranch continued operatingthe shop under different names until 1861 when he sold itto Elisha Goodrich;Goodrich ran it initially under the name Goodrich & Son before finallychangingit back to NICHOLS COFFEE HOUSE ON 5TH STREET IN 1956 after purchasing adjacent landFurther expansion occurred during Goodrich's ownership with multiple additions/changesto the original structure alongwith increased emphasis on quality control measures including strict uniformity rules governing equipmentMustard and sugar content among othersbefore finally shutting down momentarily during World War II due primarilyto wartime restrictions regarding many aspects OF Coffee House Operations

It is part of the Alexandria-Arlington-Richmond, VA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded on December 12, 1814 by General John Forbes and Colonel James Smith as a trading post on the Roanoke River. On July 3, 1861, it became capital of Confederate States of America. In 1865 it fell to Union forces during the American Civil War and was burned by Union troops. The town was rebuilt and renamed after its patron saint in 1892. It had a population of 8,500 in 2015. Virginia Beach is known for its many surfing beaches, its annual Fourth of July fireworks show (the largest in Northern Virginia), and for its large number of luxury hotels including the Ritz-Carlton and Hyatt Regency hotels which are noted for their views from their windows or balconies over local beaches or shorelines

The area was first explored by Spanish explorers in 1519, and it wasn't until 1609 that English traders discovered the area. In 1775, the British captured Virginia Beach from the French, and they named it after King George III of England. The town began to grow rapidly during this time, and by 1825 it had reached its current size. By 1870, Virginia Beach had become a seaport, and it soon became an important stop on the Atlantic Coast trade route. In 1907,Virginia Beach was incorporated as a city, and over the years it has continued to grow into one ofAmerica's most popular tourist destinations.
