The history of firearms in Anacortes, Washington dates back to before the start of the American Revolution. One of the first stores in town was a gunsmith business located on Commercial Street. This store was run by Nicholas Barrett and his brother John. They were among the earliest dealers in rifles and pistols in Anacortes. In 1794, Nicholas Barrett passed away and his business was transformed into an armory. The armory played an important role during the First World War when it became home to The Pacific Rifle Company which manufactured artillery pieces for America’s war effort. In 1920, Anacortes’ first rifle range opened its doors and continued to operate until 1980 when it was closed due to lack of customers. In 1951, a group of citizens formed The Gun Club of Anacortes which began operating a shooting range on Harbor Drive. It would be their successors who would continue operations at this facility until 1984 when it closed again due to lack of customers. In 1984, The Pistol Shop reopened as a store specializing in handguns and shotguns with an emphasis on antique weapons. It continued operations until 2001 when it closed again due to lack of customers; however, it reopened under new ownership in 2008 and continues to serve as an importer/distributor for firearms products from around the world today.

Anacortes is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 7,693 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle-Tacoma metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit Anacortes were the Spanish in 1792 and they named it "Nuestra Señora de la Concepción" (Our Lady of Conception). In 1853, Anacortes became part of King County and was renamed Anacortes after Captain John W. Anacorte who fought with General Zachary Taylor during the Mexican–American War. Anacortes is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 7,583 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Anacortes was James Watt in 1851. Watt and his family founded the town on land they had bought from Chief Seattle. They named it after Anacortes, an Ionian city on the west coast of Asia Minor that had been sacked by Alexander the Great's army in 356 BC. The community grew rapidly and by 1870 it had a population of 22 people. On July 4, 1872, Anacortes became the county seat of King County and Watt was elected its first mayor. In 1903, Wm. Denny started construction on what would become Microsoft's first campus in Seattle; Microsoft moved to Anacortes in 1965 and has since grown into one of America's largest technology companies with over 50 locations worldwide. In 1967-1968, Anacortes hosted America's Cup yacht racing event which helped create local maritime tourism industry which continues to this day An Acorn Pie stand remains open today as a tourist attraction for locals and visitors alike who adore this popular dish from early American history
Anacortes was founded by the Spanish in 1692 as a small fishing village on Orcas Island. It became a port for Spanish ships sailing to the Northwest Coast, and then a larger town after the British gained control of Orcas in 1821. The town was abandoned in 1847 when gold and silver were discovered at nearby Birch Bay. By 1860, Anacortes had reached its present size and status as an industrial center with shipbuilding, lumbering, and other manufacturing businesses. In 1976, Anacortes became an independent city following a vote by its citizens.
