In the early 1800s, Anacortes was a small rural town in Washington County. The town was founded by French Canadians who were fleeing famine in Canada. The first permanent settler in Anacortes was Pierre-André Dorion, a fur trader and member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. In 1819, Dorion built the first home in the town and named it after himself, Pierre-André Dorion House. Dorion was an early promoter of coffee as a beverage and developed what is now known as the "Anacortes Coffee Plan." This plan called for planting coffee trees near water supplies to produce more beans per acre than any other coffee variety. The result was high yields and good quality coffee that continued to be sold into the 1920s. During World War II, Anacortes became one of several towns in Washington County that produced food for military units stationed there. One of the primary products produced by these farmers were eggs, bacon, cheese and noodles. These products helped support local businesses during wartime and continue to be grown here today.

Coffee, specifically espresso, has a long and varied history in Anacortes. In 1887, Italian immigrant Angelo Gagliardi opened the first coffee shop in town. The business operated until 1969. In 1951, Anacortes became the first city in Washington State to have its own coffee roaster. The company was founded by David Bittle and his wife Lillian. Bittle is considered one of the founders of Northwest Coffee Roasters, which still operates out of their original building in Anacortes today. In 1971, Don Freeman started a small grocery store next door to Northwest Coffee Roasters and began selling beans direct from the roasting plant. The store continued to operate until 1984 when it merged with Safewayards Inc., which later became Costco Wholesale Corporation. The stores on Fourth and Oregon Streets were both closed by 1986 but reopened as RV dealerships under the name "Anacortes Coffee." By 1992, most of Northwest Coffee Roasters had been closed down except for Don Freeman's RV dealership which continued to sell beans until 2000 when he retired and sold all his assets to Green Mountain Coffee Co., who continue to roast beans at their facility today (More information on this can be found at Green Mountain Coffee Co.'s website).
Anacortes is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 21,872 at the 2010 census. Anacortes is on Puget Sound and lies on the east side of the Strait of Juan de Fuca. It is bordered by Renton to the north, Sammamish River to the east, Bellevue to the south, and North Bend to the west. The first permanent European settler in what is now Anacortes was George Vancouver in 1792. He named his new land "Vancouver Island". The name Anacortes has been used continuously since then for both an incorporated town and an unincorporated community located within it. A post office called Anacortes had been established in 1851; it was discontinued in 1875. In 1886, voters organized a town charter which designated all of present-day King County as part of their proposed new county seat; however, this plan failed because Bellevue had already consolidated with Seattle as a city. On March 14, 1907 (the day after Washington became a state), vote results showed that 74% of residents approved creating an unincorporated area within Anacortes known as Bothell from land belonging to Everett Air Force Base east of Mercer Street between Narrows Way and I-5th Avenue NE - thisArea would eventually become Bothell proper In 1916–17 saw heavy fighting during World War I when General John J Pershing's forces invaded British Columbia; many people living along Puget Sound fled into hiding due to fear of aerial bombardment or Japanese encroachment into their homes. This event helped solidify American support for war efforts during wartime and contributed financially to war bonds drives throughout most of America Anacortes experienced significant growth following World War II when Boeing began operations at Renton Airport adjacent to Bothell Common near where Highway 99 meets Bothell Boulevard). This led to more businesses moving into downtown areas such as State Street between First Avenue NW and 4th Street NW which became commercial corridors for much of Northwest Washington . Census data from 2010 shows that there are now over 20 , 000 people living inside downtown boundaries including 11 thousand insideBothell proper . Downtown currently includes many popular restaurants such as Starbucks Coffee & Tea Lounge., KFC restaurant., Pacific Rim Pizza Place., Asian Bistro., Taco Bell restaurant., Papa John's Pizza place., Sonic Drive-in restaurant., Wendy's fast food chain.. There are also numerous small businesses located around downtown like art galleries/gallery stores/photography studios/hair salons etc These businesses have helped contribute $315 million dollars (2010)to GDP in King County

Anacortes is a town located in King County, Washington. It was founded on the Anacortes River in 1836 by George H. Smith and his family. The population of Anacortes was 5,864 at the 2010 census. The history of Anacortes goes back to 1836 when George H. Smith and his family settled down on the banks of the Anacortes River in what is now known as King County. At that time, there were no settlements within present-day King County and much of what is now central King County was undeveloped land. Because of this, the Smiths decided to settle down on the riverbank and name their new community "Anacortes." The first store in town was built on Main Street in 1840 by Wm. Ladd and it served as the nucleus for early businesses in town. By 1850, local farmers had started growing crops and began selling goods from their homes; consequently, early mills saw some heavy demand for flour, wheat flour, oats, sugar beets, potatoes etc.; which helped give birth to what are today known as downtown Anacorte's most important businesses - The Griggs Emporium (1851), The Masonic Temple (1853), The Pioneer Hardware & Coal Store (1854), First National Bank (1856), The American Legion Post No. 1 (1857), The Seattle Public Library (1907) - among others . Downtown business thrived until World War II when downtownactivity declined due to wartime restrictions on commerce imposed by the United States government; however, new businesses have since begun sprouting up around downtownAnacorte including Griggs Seafood Restaurant & Market (2007-present) and Head Start Programs operated out of two charter buses parked near Third Avenue South/NW Superior Street
