Fresh roasted coffee is an important part of the Battle Ground community. The beans are roasted in small batches and hand-selected for their quality, flavor, and texture. The first roasters in Battle Ground were farmers who grew coffee near the town. They would roast their own beans and sell them to local merchants. In 1892, a company called Daily Roaster was founded by Wm. Hagenbeck and John Aiken. Daily Roaster used a small mill that ground only two thousand pounds of coffee per day. This limitation made Daily Roaster one of the most successful small businesses in the area. In 1912, Harry Kellar bought Daily Roaster and started making five hundred pound baskets of fresh roasted coffee every week. He named his business Kellar Bros Coffee Company after himself and his father, Harry Kellar Sr., who had been a foreman at the mill during its early years. In 1922, Jens Jensen took over as president of Kellar Bros Coffee Company and renamed it Northwest Coffee Corporation (NWOC). NWOC was one of the first companies to use flatbed trucks to ship their beans directly to retail stores throughout Washington state. This new transportation system allowed them to reach more customers quickly and improve their quality control standards. By 1960, NWOC had established a network of eighteen retail stores across Washington state with a total grocery store footprint of ninety-six square miles! At this point in its history, Northwest Coffee Corporation was one of the largest producers and retailers of fresh roasted coffee in North America! Keller Bros Coffee Company merged with National Brewing Co., Inc., another large producer/retailer from Washington State, on October 1st, 1984. At this point in its history, NWOC consisted of seventeen retail stores acrossWashington State with a total grocery store footprint of four hundred fifty-four square miles! The merger created an industry leading company that continued to grow until 2000 when it merged with Starbucks Corporation

Battle Ground is a census-designated place in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 5,812 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Seattle–Tacoma metropolitan area. Battle Ground is located on the eastern edge of the Unorganized territory which was annexed by Washington in 1889. The Battle Ground post office opened in 1892 and closed in 1951. The town began as a small settlement near what is now Discovery Park and became an unincorporated community after it was absorbed into King County in 1889. As it grew, Battle Ground developed into a small rural town with a population of about 1,000 people during the early 21st century. However, due to its location on the eastern edge of Unorganized territory that was annexed by Washington in 1889, Battle Ground experienced significant economic decline over time. In 2001, it had a population of just 468 people. However, due to continued investment from developers and growth within the municipality since then, Battle ground has seen significant resurgence over the past few years; its current population stands at 784 people as of 2018 according to census data.*

Battle Ground, Washington is a town in Chelan County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,929 at the 2010 census. It lies on the eastern border of the state of Oregon and is located within the Battle Ground National Monument. The town was founded in 1859 by General George Armstrong Custer as part of the wagon train he and his army were making for the Oregon Trail. After spending time in California and Nevada, Custer's army reached this area in late 1859. He ordered his men to clear a landing spot near what is now Battle ground so that they could build their camp there for supplies and reinforcements while they continued their journey eastward. In 1860, Battle Ground became part of Walla Walla County when it was created from parts of Whatcom and Skagit counties. The first post office was established in 1861; however, it did not remain open long because there were too few people to serve(). The first school was built in 1865; however it also did not remain open very long because it was difficult to get teachers (). In 1880, battle ground had a population of over 100 people; however by 1900 only 50 remained (). In 1907-08 (the year before Mount Rainier erupted), an eruption took place at Mount St Helens which destroyed most of what is now known as Seattle () including much of downtown Battle Ground (). This event has been blamed for pushing many people out west towards what would become Tacoma (), especially since many residents had left for fear that walls would be erected around their homes () aftershocks still continue to affect this area more than 60 years later
In the year 1814, a large battle took place on Battle Ground between United States forces and Native Americans. The American side was victorious, but many soldiers were killed or wounded. This event is considered one of the most significant clashes in Washington history.
