Battle Ground is a small town in Washington County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,936 at the 2010 census. Battle ground is located on the Cumberland River and is part of the Cincinnati–Northern Kentucky Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to visit what is now Battle Ground was French Major Pierre-Charles La Salle in 1764. He named it "Baton Rouge" after the baton he found there while exploring the area for new Frontiers posts. The first permanent settler in what is now Battle ground was John Prentice who arrived with his family in 1800. He donated land to form what is now Battle Ground Township and built a cabin on its banks. In 1802, Prentice's grandson, James Prentice donated another tract of land to form present day Beattyville Township which became one of the most populous townships in Kentucky at that time. In 1828, General Andrew Jackson made an official visit to this area and ordered Colonel George Silliman to survey a route for a wagon road from Nashville through Cumberland Valley into Ohio Territory. On May 10, 1830 Jackson issued an order for all settlers east of Mason City (now Dayton) on the Scioto River not to build any more settlements until orders were received from Jackson himself about extending westward into Illinois Territory through what are now parts of Pennsylvania and West Virginia prior to Indian Removal(). This order limited settlement near Pittsburgh by approximately two miles due primarily to lack of available water resources necessary for wagon travel over these long distances. After years of debate as to whether or notBattle Ground should become part of Cincinnati&NKY or be abandoned as several residents lobbied unsuccessfully for incorporation into either city, Battle Ground finally voted incorporation into Cincinnati on December 3rd 1857 by a majority vote despite strong opposition from residents living west of I-70 who felt they would lost access to their farmland and commerce if they joined forces with their eastern brethren within city limits). As part of residential development around this time many businesses were opened such as J & W Grocery (later Kroger), Post Office (later USPS), Masonic Lodge #2 which still meets today outside historic downtown Battlegrounds building on Main Street; Coal Fields store built on current site where Frontier Brewing Company used to stand; Methodist Episcopal Church erected between 1880-1884; Baptist church constructed in 1865; School House (later Griggs Elementary School) built between 1860-1862; [ later ] First Presbyterian Church erected in 1886 There also were small amounts construction going on such as Public Works Department Headquarters moved from original Griggs school building across street in 1861 during construction process associated with new courthouse nearby );[ later ] State Capitol Building Built between 1907 and 1912 ) One result resulting from increased activity around town was increased amount physical damage done both inside and outside buildings over time including significant loss/damage occurred during night raids by Confederate cavalry patrols targeting civilian residences conducted during early 19th century period when town had no police officer or other meansfor defense against raiders . Conventional wisdom has it that because battle ground lacked proper defenses against raiders then citizens largely took advantage of open season offered by Confederate troopers seeking plunder rather than engaging them directly ; especially given high mortality rates among civilians during this period resultant from raids

It was founded in 1847 by the fathers of the current community of Battle Ground, which was established on the opposite side ofWHAT became known as Spokane Valley. The original name for Battle ground was "Anacapa". In 1851, Anacapa and other small communities were consolidated into one town under the name of Battle Ground. The first post office at Battle ground was called Anacapa and opened on November 1, 1851. The present post office building was built in 1895. In 1898, Battle ground had a population of only eighty-four people but it rapidly grew to over one thousand residents by 1900 due to its rich agricultural potential and natural resources such as timber and coal. By 1910 it had reached its peak population with more than two thousand residents. In 1916, during World War I, battle ground became an important staging area for American forces because it lay near several supply ports which facilitated rapid shipment of food and munitions to Allied troops fighting on the front lines. After the war ended, many businesses reopened including a mill that produced flour for local consumption as well as wagons used by farmers to transport their crops south to market
