By 1810 there were 100 people living here and by 1830 there were 300 people here. The first post office at Battle ground was established in 1811 and served until 1850. At that time, it moved to Spokane so that mail could be delivered directly from Moscow to settlers living hereabouts without going through Seattle or Tacoma. By 1870, battle ground had become a thriving small town with over 1,000 residents! It remained this way until 1925 when it lost its status as a city due to population growth within Seattle along with other smaller communities within Washinton state which had similar rights/status quo with regard to their own local government entities - essentially becoming unincorporated villages outside of any municipality boundaries (similarly throughout most of North America during this time).
