Battle Ground is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 5,878 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue metropolitan area. Battle ground is located along Interstate 5 and State Route 410. The first permanent settler in what would become Battle Ground was David Sills, who arrived in 1836. He named his land "Sill's Landing", but it was later renamed to battle ground after General George Washington's victory over the French at Saratoga Springs on October 17,1777. In 1881, Battle Ground became a census-designated place (CDP) when it was annexed by Seattle from Kittitas County. As early as 1861, there were skirmishes taking place around battle ground between Confederate forces and Union troops commanded by Colonel John A. Slocum. The biggest engagement took place on November 15th when Confederates attacked Union forces under Lieutenant Colonel Augustus Crouch at Cedar Point Park northeast of town: Confederate losses were heavy with six killed and twenty five wounded; however; this did not stop Slocum from continuing to lead his men into battle the next day despite losing many men himself including two generals (George Armstrong Custer and Ulysses S Grant). It wasn't until 1865 that battlefields really began to come into play as fighting increased along I-5 between Confederates and Unionists as hostilities continued across America following President Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation which ended slavery in all US states except for Louisiana Purchase territory of Texas & Florida where it continued until 1898 due to Spanish American War tensions & Interventionism by US allies Spain & Mexico Battlefield focus shifted towards near Tacoma & Bellevue areas with skirmishes continuing sporadically around these larger cities throughout the conflict but no significant engagements taking place outside of those two main regions; this changed once the war ended with most soldiers being released from service or pulled back home soon afterwards leaving these large central towns largely abandoned save for a few families that had continued living there while their homes were looted or destroyed during the aftermath of what could be considered one of America’s largest wars ever fought

Battle Ground has a rich history dating back to 1851 and it is one of only a few places in the contiguous United States that still retains its original platted land boundaries from before statehood. The first permanent settler in what is now Battle Ground was Captain John Ballou who arrived on July 17, 1851. He and his family were among the earliest families to come to what is now King County. Captain Ballou's Donation Land Claim #1 was located just east of present-day Battle Ground on the north bank of Bell Creek. In 1853, George Stephenson donated land for a steamboat landing on Lake Union at present day Pioneer Square in Seattle. This location became known as Stephenson Landing becauseCaptain George Stephenson used it for docking his steamboats during their trips between Seattle and Tacoma. On December 5, 1856, the town of Battle Ground was organized from parts of Auburn and Bellevue Townships withinKing County by Territorial Governor James Kahl as Washington Territory Annexation Act No. 1 (24 Statutes at Large No 335). On January 14, 1861, after much discussion among Commissioners Crouch and Eaton about whether or not to annex Prior Lake Township into Battle Ground due to its proximity to Olympia (then called Bothell), commissioners decided against it because they felt that annexation would give too much power to those living near Parkland which already had an elected board of supervisors with powers over local roads and schools; larger towns like Everett didn't need this extra authority necessary for annexation purposes On February 10th 1861 authorization was given by territorial governor James Kahl for battle ground railway construction beginning southwest from current site line along Swanson Road between Milton Rd & battle ground creek thence up Swanson Rd past current home lot line then following creek bed all the way back along Swanson Rd
