The United States Army deployed gift history in Bellevue, Washington during World War II. The Bellevue Army Base was home to the 191st Infantry Regiment, a unit of the 9th Infantry Division. From 1942 to 1945, this regiment served in the European Theater of Operations and fought in battles such as Normandy, Anzio-Borgo, and Cassino. In 1944, the regiment was redesignated as the 191st Infantry Regiment (9th ID), and moved to Fort Lewis in Thurston County. In 1947, it was reorganized as an infantry brigade under command of the 3rd Infantry Division. It served in Korea from 1951 to 1953 and again from 1957 to 1959. After returning from Korea, it became part of III Corps under General Omar Bradley until its decommissioning on July 1, 1961. On September 25, 1962, at Fort Belvoir outside Arlington Heights IL., then First Lieutenant John A. Hasbrouck received orders activated into Company D of the 191st I&A (9th ID) for duty with Cavalry Squadron 725 stationed there at that time commanded by Colonel Harry Hargrave Hasbrouck served with his squadron through most of World War II before being honorably discharged on October 12 1946 having reachedthe rank of captain He returned home to Bellevue where he met his wife Ruth who had also been born in Bellevue They married on November 4 1948 at Stroud Methodist Church located near the base
