Polk, who served as Governor of Washington from 1853-1858 and as President of the United States from 1860-1865. In 1867, Bellevue became a city and was renamed Bellevue City Park.

The name "Bellevue" was given by General Alexander Hamilton when he founded what is now Bellevue Station on April 21, 1853 with land that he purchased from Robert Quincy Stevenson for $5 million[10][11]. The original town site was bounded by First Avenue on the west, Second Avenue on the north, Third Avenue on its east side and Interstate 5 (now Roosevelt Way) on its south. In 1865–1866, Bellevue became part ofKing County when it was organized as a county seat under territorial law. It served as such until 1900 when it became an independent city under statehood. On January 1st 1920 Bellevue annexed parts of Duvall City which had been annexationist½ out of deference to Seattle's new Mayor Harry Benson who wanted recognition for his own annexation effort[12]. The last annexation happened in 1964 but due to protests from citizens Douglas Rushkoff managed not be finalized until 1966[13]. In 1976 Bellevueland merged with Bothell which at that time had a population over 100K people making it one of Seattle's largest towns[14][15][16], however this merger did not result in any long-term changes within either community because both communities are still run by their respective local governing bodies today

Bellevue is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 23,521 at the 2010 census. Bellevue is located on the east side of Seattle and is bordered by Kent to the north, Redmond to the east, Lynnwood to the south, and Bothell to the west. The first settlers in Bellevue were Scottish immigrants who arrived around 1851. They named their settlement "New Deer" after their game animal of choice. The Scotsman who founded Bellevue also planted a larger farm that still stands today in what is now Everett Park. In 1872, an American flag was flown from a pole in Richards Road while Bellevue's first postmaster served as its president. In 1905, Douglas MacArthur visited Bellevue and impressed upon its citizens the need for them to help fight Japanese aggression during World War I. Bellevue has seen many changes over its history including becoming home to Boeing's 777 airplane manufacturing plant during World War II; being renamed "Bellevue" after Printers Trust founder Edwin Guggenheim in 1959; experiencing rapid growth following annexation by King County in 1955; becoming one of only two towns in Washington State (the other being SeaTac) incorporated after statehood in 1907; experiencing continued growth following passage of Initiative 946 which designated Bellevue as an urban renewal area between 1975 and 1985; seeing significant redevelopment along First Avenue NE since it was re-routed near Interstate 5 shortly before it opened up as a major retail corridor; and finally experiencing significant decline starting around 2000 with high rates of crime and fire
Bellevue was founded in 1881 as a small town on the banks of the Snake River. It quickly grew and became one of Washington's most important cities, with its own school system, library, and businesses. Bellevue was also home to some of the first white settlers in what is now Northwest Washington, including George Vancouver and his family. The city experienced a period of growth and prosperity during the early 20th century, before experiencing another economic downturn in the 1930s.
