Bremerton is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 5,883 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle–Tacoma metropolitan area. Bremerton is located on the Kitsap Peninsula and bordered by those cities to the north and east, Moses Lake to the west, and Everett to the south. The first Europeans to visit what is now Bremerton were Native Americans who may have come from nearby Yaquina Bay. On July 12, 1792, Captain Alexander Selkirk discovered land that would become Bremerton when he landed his ship " Discovery " at Puget Sound's mouth onshore during his exploration of northwest Washington. He named it after George John Bremerton, an Englishman who had been captain of HMS Discovery during its round-the-world voyage in 1787-1789. A post office called Bremerton was established in 1851, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. The first stores were built near present day Broadway and First Avenue; they became known as First Mercantile District No. 1 because they Bargained & Sold everything except groceries at wholesale prices before this became common practice among merchants throughout Puget Sound region during this time period In 1909 a group of businessmen formed what would later be known as Tacoma Electric Company with a goal of providing electrical services throughout Pierce County includingBremerton Tacoma Electric Company decided that it would make more sense not to build wires right through neighbourhoods but rather build substations off central arterial roads so that customers could access service anywhere they wanted without having their homes violated by lineups outside the substation

Bremerton is a city in Kitsap County, Washington, United States. The population was 26,824 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Kitsap County and home to Bremerton Naval Shipyard and the Pacific Science Center. The first permanent settler in what is now Bremerton was George Vancouver on April 12, 1792 when he and his family arrived from England with the schooner "Nottingham". He named his new land after his father-in-law's estate in England. In 1853, John C. Bremer bought 640 acres (248 ha) of what later became Bremerton from Moses J. Waddell for $5 per acre ($100). In 1865, Henry A. Waterman built a small dock on Kitsap River to service vessels coming into Puget Sound from Asia. This settlement grew slowly until 1883 when Captain Hiram Senter developed an artificial harbor on Mud Bay which enabled him to traffic large amounts of salt fish from Tacoma and other ports in the Sound region without having to disembark his ships at Seattle. In 1907, Captain James Ewart de la Croix acquired title to 1,500 acres (621 ha) north of present day Bremerton limits along Mud Bay which he donated to the town as part of a larger donation made by de la Croix heirs in 1912 following their father's death; this area would become known as Battery Point National Monument during World War II because Japanese forces bombarded it during The Great Pacific War on December 7–9 1945 while Allied forces were fighting ashore nearby Iwo Jima Island. The town annexation process began that year under Mayor Harry Fenton Jr., who persuaded voters not only to accept annexation but also provide money for streets and facilities including homes and businesses within the already existing community nucleus once annexation was complete The population reached 30,000 by 1970 but growth slowed thereafter due mainly to retirements among both men working at Navy Yard or Navy related businesses inland while people left for jobs outside the city Limits or simply stopped contributing financially - although commercial development has resumed since 2000 with several high-rise buildings erected along First Avenue near Breaker Lake .
