Bremerton is a small town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,829 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle-Tacoma metropolitan area. The first people to live in Bremerton were Native Americans who hunted and gathered local resources such as fisheries and game. The first white settlers arrived in 1851 when James W. Bremert bought land from the Tlingit tribe. In 1853, he founded the city of Bremerton on what is now Darlington Point on Puget Sound. The town grew quickly due to its natural resources and access to salmon fishing and waterway navigation. By 1870, Bremerton had a school, jail, post office, Masonic Lodge No. 2 (later Grand Lodge), two churches (one Swedish Lutheran and one Methodist), five businesses (three fabric stores, two shipyards/machinery factories and one sawmill), 14 families and over 1 million dollars in assets! Bremerton experienced significant growth after World War II as Boeing created jobs in production plants nearby. However, many residents left for suburban communities during the late 1970s through 1990s when high housing prices made West Seattle more affordable thanBremerton could afford. Some Recent History: In 2013, Governor Edward Meche made it mandatory for all states with state guard units to establish similar ceremonial weapons regulations as those used by the Marine Corps Reserve Force uniforms worn by Marines on active duty! This law went into effect on July 1st, 2013 after months of public criticism from various groups who felt that this change would erode trust between state guard units and Marine Corps Reserve Force members. Governor Meche's rationale was twofold; firstly because reserve Marines were already wearing identical firearms requirements as active duty Marines which made it difficult for them to get any style or color "gift" they wanted for Christmas; secondly becauseActive Duty Marines attend officer basic training (OBT) where they receive new Uniform Requirements Guide (UNRG) clothing now snakeskin polished Levi’s instead of olive drab fatigues! In response thousands upon thousands(!) local retailers throughout New Jersey ordered their inventory before Gov Meche’s law went into effect! He stated “I believe that we should do everything possible so that these troops will not have anything other than what is required under Title 10 USC Chapter 43….
