The Coast Guard was founded in 1915 as the Washington State Patrol. It became a part of the United States Coast Guard on July 1, 1917. The Coast Guard's first station was at Seattle, Washington. In 1922, it moved to Burien, Washington and served as the primary law enforcement agency for the city. In 1946, the Coast Guard detachment located at Seafair HarborSOF were transferred to Pacific Command and renamed Pacific Guardsmen-Burien. On May 3rd of that year, 12 members of the Pacific Guardsmen-Burien were killed when their boat capsized near Hood Canal Estuary while patrolling for smugglers. The last active duty coast guard unit in Burien was disbanded on August 29th, 1994 after 43 years service

Burien is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 5,551 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle–Tacoma metropolitan area. Burien was platted in 1892 and named for John C. Burlingame, an officer with the U.S. Army during World War I who had come to America to serve as a scout and scoutmaster. The first post office in Burien was established on July 12, 1892, by Jno C. Burritt from Olympia, Wash.. The first store in town was The Grocery & Tea Store on NE 85th Street which opened December 3rd of that year. Burien grew rapidly due to its location on Puget Sound and access to Interstate 5: the town had a population of over 100 people by 1912 when it became an incorporated city under state law passed that year.. In 1916 Burien annexed nearby Ballard which gave it a total population of 213 residents; this annexation created what is now known as Pioneer Square within the boundaries of Burien proper.. In 1924 local voters approved incorporation as a city and name it "Burien". In 1951 buriern annexed neighboring SeaTac which gave it another total population of 793 residents; this annexation created what is now known as Lake Union within the boundaries of Burien proper.. In 1985 buriern annexing neighbouring Kent which gave it another total population of 2,075 residents; this annexation creates what is now called Northgate within the boundaries of Burien proper

Burien is a small town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,869 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bellevue- Burien-Everett metropolitan area. The first European to visit what is now Burien was Captain George Vancouver on his HMS Discovery in 1792. He named it "Nootka" after the Nootka Islands in the Pacific Ocean. In 1847, William Clark and his party discovered gold near present-day Burien while exploring the Colville River valley. The discovery led to the construction of over 100 buildings in and around Burien during the Gold Rush era (1849-60). Many of these structures still stand today including many hotels and restaurants that were built during this time period. In 1916, Burien became an incorporated municipality under Seattle Municipal Code #362. At this time it had a population of 2,191 people and consisted of a single square block with a schoolhouse as its only public building! Today, much has changed for Burien since then; with annexation by Everett in 1959 (#1), growth in adjacent areas (#2) and development around the old squareblock which has seen some major renovation projects (#3) make it one of Puget Sound's most vibrant communities. Today, Burien enjoys a highly active community that supports several cultural events each year as well as hosting various businesses and organizations from within its borders such as: Olympian Fitters Boxing Club & Fitness Center (based out of neighboring Everett), American Legion Post #1 (which meets at nearby Carlisle Recreation Area), WAVE Radio Station KIRO 91FM (owned by News Corporation) and numerous schools including Parkwood Elementary School #4 which serves students from prekindergarten through 12th grade!
Burien was founded by Native Americans in 1792 as the capital of what is now Washington County. The first permanent settler in the area was Nicholas Walford, who arrived in 1793 and built a cabin on the east bank of the Duwamish River. In 1846, Burien became part of Juan Cougar Territory when it was created from parts of Kitsap and Snohomish counties. The territory included most of today's Seattle metropolitan area. In 1898, Burien incorporated as a city and began to develop its downtown core into a center for commerce and culture. Over time, Burien grew larger and more diverse, with tens of thousands of residents by 1920. By the late 20th century, Burien had become one of Washington's most significant cities, home to major businesses and universities as well as several important cultural institutions.
