Burien, Washington is one of the most coffee-friendly cities in the United States. The city’s coffee industry has been around for over a hundred years and produces some of the world’s most expensive coffee. Today, Burien is home to two main coffee production companies: Starbucks and Peet’s Coffee. Each company has their own unique history and legacy in the coffee industry. Starbucks was founded in Seattle in 1976 by Howard Schultz. The company quickly became an international powerhouse, with stores across North America and Europe. In 2011, Starbucks decided to move its headquarters from Seattle to Burien. Peet’s Coffee was founded in 1961 by Alfred Peet and his wife Hazel Woodward. The couple started out small with just a few beans roasted at their home in Tacoma, Washington. Over time, they became one of the top producers of premium coffee worldwide. In 2012, Peet’s Coffee announced it would close all its stores worldwide due to weak demand for their products. However, this didn’t stop Peet from continuing to produce high-quality caffeine beverages at his family-owned business until his death in 2017.

Burien, Washington is a small town in King County, Washington. The population was 1,253 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle-Tacoma metropolitan area. The first people to live in what is now Burien were the Nisqually people. They arrived from Asia about 4,000 years ago and built their houses on high ground near present day Burien High School. The Nisqually were friendly with the local Indians and traded goods with them. In 1853, John Bidwell established a post office in what is now Burien. He named it after his home town of Burlington in Vermont where he had been born some years before. In 1855, John Caves became Postmaster and soon started trading goods with Native Americans along the Puget Sound waterfront and also establish newpost offices at Seward Point (1857), Bainbridge Island (1859) and Issaquah (1861). By 1861, most of what is now Burien had been developed as a resort town by entrepreneurs such as James Wickersham who built hotels and stores around Puget Sound's military installations including Fort Snohomish/Seahaven Point (later renamed Mount Baker), Evergreen Naval Base(now Puget Sound Naval Shipyard) and Southworth Army Depot(now Boeing Everett plants). The name "Burien" was given to the community by George Fenton, an American fur trader who visited the region in 1876 while exploring for gold on behalf of Anglo-Russian Coal Company Ltd.. The name "Burien" has since been used by residents of both incorporated cities as well as unincorporated areas adjacent to them. There are several historical markers located within or around Burien that commemorate various aspects of its history: Nisqually Reservation Memorial Park - This park honors those who died during conflicts between natives and white settlers over land issues within the reservation boundaries; it includes a visitor center with displays about First Nations culture and history; an Interpretive Museum depicting life on the reservation before white settlement; an open-air theater exhibiting Indian dance; more than 100 War gravesites located here; surrounding properties have been turned into gardens full of cultural artifacts from different periods throughout Nisq'alan history.; Anchor Island Municipal Marina - Owned by City of Port Orchard since 1975 this marina features boat storage, transient lodging facilities for visitors ashore during Orcasport Festival week events.,and berth space for pleasure craft up to 30 feet long.; . . . . . .King County Waterfront Park - This park provides access to Kings Harbor waterside shoreline through twoadjacent entrances/exits located just south of downtown Burien: An anchored watercraft dock provides berthing opportunities for fishing vessels up to 50 feet long.,and an open beach area offers swimming & sunbathing privileges.; Nearby businesses provide food service/takeout services.: There are also art galleries/movies nearby.: For information on special events or exhibits taking place in these areas check out website burienswashingtongov or call 425-234-8689
Coffee has been around for centuries, and it is no wonder that people have enjoyed its deliciousness over the years. Some of the earliest coffee beans were grown in Ethiopia, and they are said to have originated in 3000 BC. There was a time when coffee was only used as an intoxicating drink, and it was not until the 16th century that it began to be made into tea. In 1847, Dutch colonists explored Papua New Guinea and found coffee trees growing there. They brought back some of these plants to Java where they started to make coffee drinking machines. The first espresso machine was invented by Angelo Morini in 1865. By 1870, nearly every country had its own espresso machine manufacturer. This gave rise to the modern espresso industry which is now worth around $2 billion per year!

Burien is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 3,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle-Tacoma metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Burien was George Vancouver in 1835. He founded the town of Vancouver on land he had purchased from the Umatilla Tribe. In 1853, Burien became part of the newly created Washington Territory and became its capital. In 1863, Congress passed a bill creating KING COUNTY as an open-air county seat for all Washington Territory. The county courthouse was built in 1865 and dedicated by Governor John Wickersham. That same year saw the opening of the first store in what is now Burien; it was run by Samuel Severson and his son-in-law Jonas Noyes. In 1872, work began on building what would become known as Pacific Highway 1; this eventually led to Burien's annexation by Seattle as a city in 1907. In 1916, Boeing Aircraft Company opened its first plant here – becoming one of Seattle's early commercial boosters – and remains one of the largest employers today within city limits (with more than 7,000 employees). During World War II, Burien served as headquarters for both air forces based out of Boeing plants across Puget Sound and also housed numerous military units including two Marine Corps battalions stationed there during that time period - Battalion HQ 4th Marines (Marine Barracks) were located across busy First Avenue from Central Park until 1957 when they were moved to Southcenter Drive adjacent to Boeing’s new 747 factory complex; see photo below left & right
Burien, Washington was founded in 1875 by civic boosters. The city's first store opened in what is now the Burien Community Library on May 6th. The city grew rapidly during the late 1800s and early 1900s due to its location at the edge of Puget Sound and its access to goods and services available only a few miles away. In 1907, Burien became a charter member of the City of Seattle.
