Burien, Washington is a city in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 9,898 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous city in King County by population and the third most populous city in Puget Sound metropolitan area. Burien is located on the south shore of Lake Union and has a population density of 412 people per square mile (152/km²). The first settlers in what is now Burien were Native Americans who called it "Yankee Town". In 1851, George Sisson established Sisson's Landing on the Duwamish River near present-day Burien to provide goods and services to Pioneer Day excursions along the waterway. In 1853, John Noyes organized a party of twelve men to cross Elliott Bay from Seattle and explore Puget Sound. On July 16, 1854 they reached Burrens Landing where they remain for three days before continuing their journey up Elliott Bay until they reached Eddystone Beach on Saturday July 20th. They named their landing site Burrens Landing after General Nathaniel Burré who commanded American forces during the Mexican–American War. In 1861 when Washington became an state, James Wacker purchased land east of Tacoma and developed it into what is now Wacker Park which includes part of downtown Burien. After annexation by King County in 1889 as part of that county's growth, trade through Burrens Landing increased as did industry with Shipbuilding Point being built there soon after as well as other businesses including Donahue Meatpacking Company founded by Elisha Donahue around 1900 which manufactured ham and other meat products before ceasing operations in 1984; Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Company built its first phone line between Seattle proper and Everett in 1922; Griggs Tire & Rubber Company opened its first store at 1115 First Avenue SE just north of downtown Burien in 1924 followed by Joes Pizza Chain opening its first pizza shop at 5405 Central Avenue NE shortly thereafter followed by KFCs Opening at 8255 74th Street SW also just north of downtown Buieinng later that year making it one of only two KFC stores open throughout western Washington; Finally significant development happened with Boeing's establishment here during World War II with construction commencing on largely non-existent land near current day Airport Boulevard southeast side near Boeing Field - this included then largest single employer within town limits with over 1 million workers manufacturing aircraft parts or providing support services such as engineering/technical assistance while literally thousands more worked inland across various factories producing everything from shoes to refrigerators

Burien is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 5,914 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle metropolitan area. Burien was established as a small farming community on the shores of Lake Union in 1887 by George Hinton and others from nearby Mountlake Terrace. The name "Burien" originated with John Burke, an Englishman who had come to Puget Sound to purchase land for a new agricultural colony in 1856. The first post office was established in 1889, and Burien became an incorporated city in 1912. In 1974, it merged with neighbouring SeaTac to form the larger city of Seattle. The port town of Port Townsend served as its commercial centre until it closed down during World War II due to wartime competition from Seattle's seaport. After the war, Burien experienced growth as a bedroom community forSeattle while other portions of King County experienced decline or abandonment. The port town's closure led to increased development around I-5 and Route 99 within Burien itself; however, most development occurred outside of its boundaries until afterburien annexed neighboring SeaTac into its municipal limits in 2002. Today, much of what once constituted burieuen has been redeveloped into modern neighbourhoods such as Federal Way and Lynnwood - both located within minutes' driving distance of downtown Seattle - while smaller parts have reverted back to their original rural character including parts of Lake Union Park which remain one of the largest open spaces in North America
Burien, Washington was founded on November 20, 1871 by Captain George Vancouver as a trading post and landing place for the fur trade. The first settler in Burien was James Doane. In 1872, the town became an incorporated municipality. The population of Burien grew rapidly during the early years of its existence; by 1886 it had reached 100 people. On January 1, 1889, the town annexed the neighboring village of White Cliffs. In 1907 and 1908, Burien experienced a significant growth spurt due to World War I – after which there were steady declines in population until 1960 when it peaked at 257 people. The decline continued until 1999 when it had fallen to 163 people.
