Enumclaw is a census-designated place in Kitsap County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,912 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle metropolitan area. The town was founded by fur traders in 1847 and named for the numeral three in their trade inventory notation system. The town's first post office opened on December 10, 1847. In 1854, Enumclaw became the site of a smallpox outbreak that caused many casualties among local settlers and animals. In 1865, Enumclaw incorporated as a city under the name of Tacoma; however, this merger did not take place until 1889 due to community opposition from residents of Tacoma over its proximity to Seattle. In 1922 when King County was created, Enumclaw became one of its five cities and remained so until 1959 when it merged with SeaTac to form Seahawks Stadium Incorporated (later renamed Seahawks stadium). According to the 2000 census results released by the US Census Bureau, Enumclaw has a population of 1,912 people living in 710 households out of an estimated total population for both towns combined which was 2,445 at the 2000 census according to unofficial estimates based on village data provided by Kitsap county government; this makes it one of only two communities in Washington state with over 1 million inhabitants.(the other being Everett) With current growth rates and recent annexations within nearby areas such as Redmond or Issaquah - all located outside of Seattle proper but adjacent jurisdictions - there is little doubt that Enumclaw will maintain or even exceed this figure over time given its unique combination of socio-economic stability and large size relative to most American communities.(The second largest municipality in Puget Sound)

Enumclaw is a small town in King County, Washington. The population was 3,898 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue, WA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Enumclaw post office has been in operation since 1892. The area now known as Enumclaw was first called "Garrison" by the indigenous people because it was a location where they were able to trade goods with other tribes. In 1847, George Vancouver explored and mapped what would become King County and named the area for his friend Rev John Enumclaw of the Nisqually tribe. In 1853, when gold was discovered in the nearby Klondike region, traders from all over descended on Garrison to find out about this new land. By 1860, there were over 100 residents living in Garrison. In 1892, when Congress passed an act designating King County as a special district for mail purposes within Seattle limits, Garrison became part of that district and continued to serve as its Post Office until 1959
