Everett, Washington is a small town located in the Puget Sound area of Western Washington. The population was 7,811 at the 2010 census. Everett is home to two gun stores, four rifle ranges and two shotguns stores. There are also several sporting goods stores in the town and it is estimated that there are over 100 shooting enthusiasts who come to shoot here each year. The history of shooters gift buying begins in Everett when three men decided they wanted to start their own shooting club. They pooled their money and purchased an old hunting rifle from a lumber company right near where they lived. The club met for the first time on July 9th, 1911 and began to shoot matches outdoors. It wasn’t until 1916 when the first indoor range was opened in Everett by Rufus Wampler which eventually led to other businesses opening up around town including a ammunition store, grocery store and post office. In 1924, Wampler merged his business with another local business forming what would become known as The Gun Store Company Ltd., today known as “Boyd’s Sporting Goods Co., Inc." In 1951, Prentice Boyd founded what would become one of America's leading sporting goods stores when he boughtout The Gun Store Company Ltd.. Today Boyd's Sporting Goods has more than 2 million square feet of floor space across five branches throughout Washington State and beyond! In 2002, Boyd donated all his assets (including his personal collection) to the city of Everett so that they could be used as Cultural Property within Everett! Since then, many new projects have been started including restoration of an original barn house which housed the Eaton House Shooting Club from 1908-1960s; development of new shooting ranges; creation of a community center which houses various cultural events; and most recently construction of a new stadium/hallowed ground for future members of The Everett Rifle Association (ERA)!
