After World War II she served as an experimentship at Puget Sound Naval Yard until being sold for scrap on November 6th, 1946. Kennewick is a town in Washington, United States. The population was 3,859 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Yakima Valley Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Kennewick were French traders in 1792 and 1793. In 1811 Captain George Vancouver explored the area and named it Point Defiance after his British acquisitions at Puget Sound in what is today Seattle. The town was founded on October 16, 1821 by Major General Anthony Wayne as a result of land speculation conducted by members of his army regiment known as the Legionnaires. The town was developed primarily for transportation purposes due to its location on the Chehalis River and its short distance from any major city or port. In 1847, Kennewick became part of the new Territorial District of Olympia when that territory was organized under U.S. federal law following Oregon's admission into Confederation as an independent country. The district included most of present-day Yakima County except for a small amount including Kennewick which became part of Thurston County until 1861 when it was annexed by Spokane County. By 1870, only about half the people living in Kennewick had arrived since development had been limited to transportation and agricultural purposes only; most residents came from outside the county to work on local irrigation projects or farms along the Chehalis River valley Some early businesses in Kennewick include lumbering (owned by John Coyle), wagon making (owned by Wm Hargrave), stagecoach travel between communities in central Washington and Tacoma (owned by David King) One significant event during this time period occurred when Native American Chief Joseph Klamath built his own village near modern day Pullman City soon after arriving from northern California with his band of Indians around 1868-1869 seeking passage on an overland route connecting points along the Great Lakes watersheds vowing not to fight white settlers If successful they could have used this route to reach markets throughout North America In 1890,Kennedy Hotel opened as one of many restaurants established during prohibition era Americans began turning away from cocktails and beer towards wines and liquors In 1915 Ethel Kennedy visited her father John F Kennedy at nearby Hyatt Regency while he represented New York inoady In 1930 Census there were 431 people residing in town but increasing numbers moving out over time because population growth surpassed local resources
