Kent, Washington is a town in Pierce County, Washington, United States. The population was 2,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the greater Seattle metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit Kent were traders and missionaries from Russia in 1811. They named the local stream "Nisqually", which means "navigators' creek." In 1813, John C. Fremont explored what is now Kent when he surveyed parts of modern-day Pierce County for the US government as part of his Oregon Trail exploration. He named the creek after his friend and fellow traveler, Sir George Vancouver. The town was platted in 1889 by members of the Wanamaker family who operated a store on Main Street in downtown Seattle until 1907. The name "Kent" was chosen because it appeared on a deed from 1795 that adjoined land purchased by Captain Lewis & Clark from natives for $5 per acre (or $320 per lot). The original town square contained only two buildings: a log cabin and an old gristmill/ millrace located east of present day First Avenue NE and north of Second Avenue NE. In 1908 construction began on what became one ofSeattle's largest shopping malls with over sixty stores including Sears Roebuck and Montgomery Ward departments stores as well as JCPenney, Kmart, Dillards, A&P Super Markets and many other smaller merchants. By 1916 there were twenty-four businesses operating in downtown Kent without any streetlights or serviceable sewers; water had to be hauled into town by horse or oxcart each morning! On October 1st 1915 King World War I veteran General John J Murrow arrived at Tacoma Airport where he organized American forces destined for France under Lt Gen James Mott to relieve Canadian troops encamped near Gaspé Peninsula before they could march southward into open country west of civilization known then as French Canada Territory (present day Quebec). On November 12th 1915 Murrow ordered all male citizens between 21 years old and 55 years old coalitional leaped into trains crosscountry to Dole Creek Coal Mines near Nisqually Falls just outside present day Kent where they would work ten hours daily shoveling coal down 4 stories deep for shipment back home across delays caused by bad weather; some men diedadders working more than fifty feet below ground! On December 5th 1915 general orders changed priorities sending troops to help quash Bolshevik insurrection in Siberia instead leaving Dole Creek Coal Mines unoccupied; due to lack of replacement labor mines closed early 1917 leaving miners stranded their families lived off rations issued by military authorities until 1918 when they were finally evacuated with no food or shelter available

The first commercially successful café was opened in 1872 by Giovanni da Verrazzano, who traded wine with the Spanish crown. Coffee began being exported to Europe from Africa in the late 1800s, and it was during this time that coffee became associated with luxury goods such as fine cigars and chocolates. In 1912, Swiss entrepreneur Julius Klühn founded the first roastery in Switzerland, which became one of the most successful roasters in the world. In 1938, Dutch manufacturer Koffiekrant started producing its own branded coffees under license from Swiss producer Yvan Muller. This move helped Dutch-based Koffiekrant become one of the largest espresso companies in the world. By 1960, Koffiekrant had reached an annual sales volume of $2 billion dollars. During this time period, gourmet coffee also began becoming popular among professional chefs and restaurateurs as a source of morning refreshment. In 1969, Starbucks Corporation was founded by Howard Schultz with his goal of providing a better cup of coffee than any other business ever had before. Today, Starbucks operates over 1 million stores across fifty countries worldwide and is considered to be one of the most influential businesses on earth

Kent is a small town in the Cascade Range of western Washington, United States. The population was 766 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Yakima Valley region and includes parts of the towns of Wenatchee and Lakewood. The area that now comprises Kent was first settled by Native Americans in the early 18th century. In 1792, as part of Treaty 9, the U.S. government purchased from the Comox Indian Nation land near present-day Olympia for $5 per acre (equivalent to $ in today's dollars). The town site was chosen because it had a high water table and fertile soil suitable for growing crops. The name "Kent" meaning "place where there are onions" may be related to this fact. In 1854, when Congress passed an act creating Yakima County, it included all of what is now Kent except one small corner which became Wenatchee County in 1861. Originally part of Kittitas County, Wenatchee was annexed by Yakima in 1896; however, its eastern border remains unchanged today. The University of Washington campus located adjacent to downtown Washougal served as a major reason for growth in Kent during World War II; over 1 million students came here to study during that time period alone!formerly called Tacoma Proving Grounds after Tacoma Naval Shipyards on Puget Sound

In 1915, the United States government built George Washington University in downtown Kent, making Kent one of the most important cities in Washington state.
