On February 14th of that year, by order of Governor John Cranch Cannon, all residents of the villages within their boundaries became citizens of the newly formed city of Seattle. In 1861-1862 during America's Civil War, many soldiers from Kent enlisted in the Union army and some remain buried here today. One soldier fromKent who served during this time is unknown but may have been Private James Addison Eaton (1826-1894). Eaton enlisted for two years before he was discharged due to wound accumulation; however he later returned to serve again until his death on October 3rd 1894 at age 72 years old after spending 21 months as an Illinois volunteer regiment fighting in General William Trousdale's cavalry brigade near Vicksburg Mississippi
