Kent, Washington is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 3,362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle metropolitan area. Kent is home to the Kent State University campus. The town was founded in 1851 when Cyclone James struck the region and destroyed several homes and businesses. The first post office was established in 1852. In 1862, Kent became part of King County and was named after General George Custer during his ride through the area on his way to fight with General William Tecumseh Sherman at Chicago's Des Moines River bridge. In 1872, a new water tower called "the Goat" was built in what is now downtown Kent. The tower helped provide water for many residents until 1903 when a new system was developed that uses an open-air pump station located near central downtown which provides water 24/7. The original courthouse replaced an earlier building that burned down in 1861 and served as court house from 1871 until 1898 when it burned again (this time destroying most of the records inside). In 1907, a new courthouse was built which still serves as court house to this day; it replaced an older structure that had been demolished by fire in 1906 while also serving as jail during World War I and World War II. It wasn't until 1932 when air conditioning began being used on courtroom buildings statewide which made life much easier for judges and jurors who worked outside during summer months or winter weather conditions- something that hadn’t been possible before due to heat waves or other extreme weather events happening within short distances of citiesfolk during those times! Kent’s rich history can be seen throughout its streets, schools and infrastructure – from its pioneer settlers who arrived here from Northern Virginia early on in what would become KING county; all the way up through its current residents who have contributed so much to this community over these many years!

Kent, Washington is a small town in the U.S. state of Washington. The population was 1,641 at the 2010 census. It is located in the Yakima Valley on the east side of the Columbia River and adjoining Isabella County. The town was founded by early pioneers in 1853 as Kentick Station on what is now the southern border of Yakima County and by 1855 had become an incorporated community with a post office and school. In 1907 it became its own county seat, following creation of that county from part of Isabella County. The population declined until it reached its current level in 2000; however, recent growth has brought about new development within the limits of Kentuck. The history of Kent begins with early pioneers who arrived in what is now Yakima Valley during the late 1800s to seek new land for themselves and their families after wagon trains carrying settlers collided with a large group of Native Americans near present day Walla Walla City. These pioneer residents were among those who named their community Kentick Station which they established on July 11th, 1853 just south of modern-day Yakima Falls on what today is known as State Route 508 (SR 508). On December 2nd, 1855, under charter from Washington Territory's first Territorial Legislature, Kentick Station became an incorporated village with a post office and school operated by white men only while black men were not allowed to vote or hold property until they received education opportunities similar to those enjoyed by white people. The first person to inhabit this locality was John Davenport who purchased 6 acres (2 hectares) northeast of where present day Main Street meets SR 508 for $200 towards building his home called "Davenport's Mill", which was completed in May 1870 despite government attempts at censorship that year when newspapers published articles critical of Davenport's purchase). From these humble beginnings through hard work and determination over many years ensued as farmers began cultivating valuable but difficult terrain including sections located immediately northwest/northwestof present day SR 508 & SW cornerNW corner SR 530 & NW corner NE corner SW corner SW Corner SE corner extending into today’s Walla Walla Valley - trends continue into today’s era when much agricultural production takes place within close proximity to metropolitan areas – aspect that truly identifies us as unique place! In 1847, the city of Kent was founded by General John C. Fremont and his troops in what is now Chelan County. The city was named for General Fremont's brother-in-law, General George Kent, who had been killed in action at the Battle of Fordo during the Mexican War. In 1861, during the American Civil War, Kent fought on the Union side and became a strategic center for military operations in eastern Washington. The city experienced significant growth following the war and its incorporation into the City of Seattle in 1889. In recent years, however,Kent has seen declines in population and economic activity.
