The Boeing 727 was the first commercial airframe designed and built by Boeing. On Dec. 2, 1948 the United States Air Force gifted its first jet fighter plane to the city of Kirkland, Washington in memory of General Curtis LeMay. The aircraft was christened “P-47D Thunderchief” and served as the basis for the USAF's first jet fighter squadron, the 9th Fighter Squadron (VF-9).
Kirkland, WA is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 7,827 at the 2010 census. Kirkland is part of the Seattle–Tacoma–Bellevue Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live here were the Puyallup tribe. The area now known as Kirkland was inhabited by the Duwamish and other local tribes for many centuries before European settlers arrived in this region in 1792. The first white person to come through these woods was Captain George Vancouver on his voyage from Asia to North America in 1795. He built a Methodist chapel on land that now includes much of downtown Kirkland. In 1853, James Cougar Gulch opened up and quickly became one of the most important transportation corridors in this part of King County because it connected Seattle with Bellevue and Tacoma. The railroads arrived here soon after, making it an important commercial center for early Seattleians who grew rich off of timber and agricultural exports from this region. By 1890, when Everett had replaced Kirkland as the county seat, there were more than 1,000 buildings in what is now downtown Kirkland alone! Today’s downtown is home to many businesses such as Macy’s department store (now Macy’s Rack & Shoe), Sears Roebuck & Co., Kmart Supercenter (which closed its doors in 2006 but reopened under new ownership last year), Bank of America Merrill Lynch Tower (formerly the First National Building), and several high-end restaurants including Zuni Café and Benares Indian Restaurant—the only Indian restaurant east of Capitol Hill! One reason why Kirkland has seen so much growth over recent years is its location right nextdoor to Interstate 5 which makes it easy to get around town without having too much trouble getting around traffic jams or spending long periods trying to walk or bike across city streets!

It has since been used extensively by NASA and has helped change how people commute within North America and beyond! -The Lockheed C-130 Hercules transport plane – This transport plane was gifted to NASA by Lockheed Martin in 1978 in order to assist with research into rocketry). Kirkland was founded in 1851 by European American pioneers and became a city on July 1, 1907. The first post office in Kirkland was established in 1852. The name "Kirkland" is derived from the British settlement of Kirkwall on Orcas Island in 1792. The history of Kirkland began with smallpox epidemics that struck the area in the 1830s and 1840s. In 1851, white settlers built a log cabin near what is now downtown Kirkland while they were awaiting permission to move into what would become King County. On November 2, 1851, Douglas MacArthur became sheriff of King County after taking office on December 5th following the resignation of John Morse as sheriff due to health concerns aboutsmallpox outbreaks throughout the county As part of its centennial celebration in 2007-2008,King County conducted an archaeological survey that revealed several prehistoric sites within or adjacent to modern-day Kirkland including: Huckleberry Bayou Site (dated back to 10700 BC), Snohomish Lake Site (dated back to 9500 BC), and Big Sandy Beach (dated back to 8600 BC). A number of petroglyphs dating from this time period have also been discovered at nearby Olympia National Wildlife Refuge In 1907, Seattle Mayor George Seaton issued a proclamation designating July 1st as "National Day for Americanism" and rich cultural traditions associated with that date include street dances influenced by African Americans such as Josephine Baker; Gaelic games popularized by Scots immigrants; flag hops organized by patriotic Americans celebrating their troops' return home from World War I; and potluck dinners cooked up by ministers during intermezzo between services sponsored by churches across America A group of citizens banded together to start a business called Cement Company No. 3 which started making Portland cement commercially available for export from Seattle They soon realized there were other markets for their product so they relocated it production facilities eastward to Grays Harbor where they continued making cements until 1922 when sales moved back west again In 1913 Seattle approved an ordinance giving women voting rights which led to women becoming more politically active and starting their own clubs early on such as Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated which met monthly at Queen's Hall until 1924

In 1916, Kirkland became part of what is now King County and its government changed from village-style to county-stylegovernment. During World War II, Kirkland played an important role in the war effort through its contributions to the munitions industry and its military garrisoning of nearby Fort Lewis. After the war ended, however, economic conditions declined and development stagnated until the late 1990s when new investments led to an increase in jobs and population growth. Today, Kirkland is a thriving community with a strong cultural heritage that continues to contribute to its economy.
