They sailed for Europe on board the USS Argonaut on February 10, 1917 and landed at Arras on March 3rd. They fought their way through France until April 1918 when they halted near Verdun. From there they pushed forward to take Mons. On July 15th they relieved the US Fifth Army under General John J Pershing as part of Operation Rosebud which led to the successful capture of Paris by American forces. This event is commemorated with a plaque located next to Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. The battalion was subsequently stationed at Nancy, Germany where it fought Until September 1919 when it left for Japan as part of World War One Preparations In October 1918, 2nd Lieutenant Harry P Bogue was killed while leading Company Gs 12-15 miles north of Iwo Jima during an attack against Japanese positions just prior to Okinawa Occupation Following his death Captain Frank F Wilson assumed command of Company G . In early 1919 Captain Alfred Noble took over Command from Wilson and continued operations until November 8th1919 when he was wounded during an engagement with Japanese forces at Shuri Atoll Captain Noble re-joined Company G January 1920 after being discharged fromthe Marine Hospital , He served until August 1921 as Commandant . During this time he also assume charge of Headquarters Detachment Group 4 (Marines) which consisted of Companies E (1st Battalion), F (2nd Battalion), H (3rd Battalion), I (4th Battalion) and K (5th Battalion). Kirkland, Washington is a city in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 58,143 at the 2010 census. Kirkland is located on the north bank of the Columbia River and adjacent to Seattle on each side. It is home to Boeing's corporate headquarters and several other large companies. The first permanent settler in what would become Kirkland was John Young in 1851. He homesteaded a tract of land on the east side of the river about two miles west of downtownSeattle. In 1855, he sold his holdings upstream to David Converse for $5 per acre ($ today). By 1860, many other pioneers had moved into what became Kirkland from surrounding areas including Seattle and Tacoma. The area quickly developed as a small town with businesses located near the river and railroad tracks that connected it to Seattle and Portland. In 1870, local businessmen built a sawmill on an unnamed tributary of the Columbia River east of downtownKirkland which continues to produce lumber today as part of its namesake company - Pacific Lumber Company (PLC). Today, only a few resident still live in Kirkland, while most of its buildings are dilapidated and used as storage facilities or for other purposes. The first European immigrants to come to Kirkland were French Canadians who arrived between 1848-1853. They built a small cabin on what is now Grant Street near the present day library building. The first store opened in 1851 and soon became one of the most popular businesses in town. By 1860, there were six stores open along Grant Street alone with service stations also located nearby such as Mrs Buffington’s Tavern (now known as Steele’s) which served food from wagonloads of freight coming into town from upriver on Lake Washington daily during summer months; In 1865, territorial governor Jno Puyallup awarded land adjacent to modern-day western Kent County for a new city called Lynnwood which would be home to about 30 families at its peak; but this project never came close to fruition because President James Kuskovitch vetoed it on account that Lynnwood would compete with Seattle for access to natural resources such as water and timber; In 1886 Captain George Wernher donated land east of present day Pioneer Boulevard for what would become today's University District; but again this idea never made it out of the Planning Commission before being killed by Mayor Cyrus Chapman who felt that UW should be located closer to downtown where business could be developed more effectively.; In 1911 Capt.(Ret.) John A.] Kirkpatrick laid down the cornerstone for what is now Everett High School after several years of planning which included studying maps prepared by then Superintendent Jno Henson.; On November 5th 1909 a United States Post Office was established at 9th Ave & S Elliott St., just east ofpresent day Pioneer Blvd., becoming operational on December 1st.; Kirkland experienced another period of growth beginning around World War II when many Japanese Americans were brought over during internment here following Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor.;
