First and foremost, the Lacey Air Force Base is an important part of the Washington State Military community. It has been home to the Washington Air National Guard since World War II, and currently houses three squadrons of the 329th Fighter Wing. The 329th FW was one of only two fighter wings in the United States which flew Lockheed P-3 Orion aircraft during Operation Desert Storm in 1991. The 324th Fighter Squadron also flew P-3s during that conflict. More recently, Lacey AFB has been home to two rotary wing combat squadrons: 5144th Airlift Wing (Air Logistics) and 6052d Airlift Squadron (Airlift). Lacey AFB’s history goes back even further than that; it was originally known as “Fort Snelling” after General George Armstrong Custer who fought in 1892 at Fort Snelling near Minneapolis, Minnesota. The first USAF presence on Lacey came with World War I when a detachment from Bethel Army Airfield sent bombers to bomb German positions at Nordhausen airfield northwest of Berlin. In 1941 however, Lacey became an operational base for expansion of the NorthwestAAF during World War II with its arrival of Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress bomber units equipped with long range fuel tanks. These bombers played a significant role in Allied victories over Nazi Germany including Hiroshima and Nagasaki. After VE Day in 1945, Lacey AFB took on additional importance as Headquarters for all U.S Forces Europe (USFE), responsible for all military activities within 1 million square miles across Western Europe – what is now NATO countries included then - as well as providing command and control over U S forces engaged in Cold War operations such as Operation Overlord against Nazi Germany or later Operations Endeavour and Pine Gap Against communist China/North Korea etc.. As Headquarters grew larger so too did its staff; by 1951 there were more than 1,200 employees living on base which increased to 2,500 by 1960! In parallel with this growth, USAF installations around Puget Sound began to come online; most notably King County Airport which opened in 1946 followed by Tacoma Municipal Airport just west of downtown Tacoma in 1949(the first commercial airport west of Seattle). By 1958 both airports had been upgraded to general aviation status and were serving many local airlines with instrument flying privileges! By 1970 both airports had reached their present state; Tacoma having become a Regional Airport serving Tacoma/Seattle metropolitan area while King County was a Major Airport servicing all southeastern WA counties including Bellevue/Renton/Tacoma! The Northeast Asian contingency deployments beginning prior to 9/11 have dramatically increased our workload at Lacey AFB but we continue serve our nation fully committed through these deployments no matter what! The Air Force, then known as the military forces of the United States, was activated on September 15th, 1947 and assigned to NATO. The mission of the Air Force was to provide air-defense capability for Allied nations during wartime. With a fleet of over seventy thousand aircraft and personnel stationed worldwide, it was necessary for the Air Force to procure unique gifts in order to commemorate its service members and allies. One such example is the K-4 helicopter flown by First Lieutenant Clifford A. “Doc” Browning III from Douglas Aircraft Company. Browning flew both combat missions in Iraq during Desert Storm and he is considered one of America’s most decorated airmen with three Distinguished Flying Crosses (DFC). In 1990, Doc Browning donated his K-4 helicopter to USAF Museum at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio where it now resides on display as part of the doc browning collection. In addition to providing aerial refueling support for Allied Nations airstrikes during World War II, Boeing also manufactured airplanes used by American forces in Europe during that conflict. These planes were christened E-8 Joint Strike Fighter jets after their manufacturer – Lockheed Martin Corporation – became a customer for these aircraft design specifications following World War II. During peacetime however, Lockheed Martin continued production under license for USAAF use until 1997 when all other military factions had become compatible with Global Positioning System technology thus eliminating any need for this type of aircraft manufacture by LockheedMartin Corporation beyond their current market niche within fighter jet development circles across North America! Today, two types of Boeing E-8 Joint Strike Fighters are still being operated by American Forces: squadrons stationed overseas [in Europe], while others have been converted into ground attack aviation platforms through conversion centers located at Maytag plant near Omaha Nebraska;[the] resulting units are designated KC-135 StratotankersMaverick CRJ900ER Stratotankers]. As well as numerous variants specific equipment or family assemblies exist which tooltip our understanding about what made an airplane unique or interesting enough that it warranted deployment gift history status within USAF operational capabilities since before electronic warfare devices such as airborne early warning receivers could be fielded back then some capabilities were deemed too hazardous or counter productive while equipment like forward looking infrared sights may have proven themselves more effective against night time threats!

The area that became Lacey was part of the Rogue River Indian Reservation and was known as "The Prairie". In 1851, the United States Government organized the counties into districts, which made Lacey one of six districts within the Provisional District of Oregon. In 1861, Congress created Lane County, including parts of present-day Lacey, and divided it among the six districts. In 1865, when California entered the Union as a United States State, Lane County became part of California. After California's admission to the Union, Lane County continued to be under federal jurisdiction and was renamed Grant County in 1868. In 1874–75, Grant County merged with Yamhill and Douglas Counties to form Tillamook County. Lacey has been served by two mayors: John Smedley (1876–84) and Addie Barron (1901–3). World War II veteran Major General Lew Wallace served as Mayor from 1944 until his death in 1945. During World War II Lacey experienced great destruction due to bombing raids by Japan. The community rebuilt quickly and received many contributions from local residents who donated materials such as homes or furniture for use after the war. Many members of local businesses also contributed items like radios or typewriters for use by civilians during peace time. The post-war reconstruction phase saw increased business activity thanks to an increase in travel between Lacey and other western towns following recovery efforts following World War II
