The Lacey Air Force Base Museum has a rich airforce history dating back to World War II. The museum’s collection of aircraft, equipment and memorabilia is extensive, and the museum is open to the public every day from 9am to 5pm. In 1942, Lacey AFB was home to two Army Air Forces training commands: the 414th Fighter Wing and the 419th Fighter Group. In 1945, Lacey AFB became an USAF base with four squadrons of Boeing B-29 Superfortresses. These bombers were used for strategic bombing missions against Japan. In 1946, Lacey AFB was transferred fromArmy control to the USAF and became a full-fledged military installation. It housed three groups of fighter jets: the 436th Fighter Wing (later redesignated as the 449th Fighter Wing), which flew F-86 Sabres; the 463d Bombardment Group (later redesignated as the 465th Bombardment Wing), which flew Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighters; and finally, in 1958,the 471st Bomber Squadron (later redesignated asthe 485th Bombardment Squadron) which served in Convair CV-22B Osprey aerial tankers

Lacey is a small town in the Columbia Basin region of Washington. It is located on the banks of the Columbia River, about twenty miles from Seattle. The population of Lacey was 1,813 as of 2010. Lacey was founded in 1881 by A.H. Simpson and his wife, Eliza Walford Simpson. They named it after their daughter Lacee, who had been born two years earlier in what is now Idaho Territory. In 1915, Lacey became a territory within the United States and was renamed Washington. In 1959, it became an independent state and was renamed Lacey; its original name still appears on some government documents and on local businesses and school districts'. The airforce gift history goes back to the early days of America’s air force. In 1917, the United States entered World War I and needed all the supplies it could get its hands on. The government created a program to give away goods and services in order to help support military efforts. This was called Operation Christmas Tree. One of the first things that came out of this program was a set of goggles called “Gift Goggles”. These were given away to servicemen as a way to keep them safe while they were on duty. Additionally, these goggles allowed people who did not have access to other forms of safety equipment to see farther than ever before. In 1948, President Harry Truman gave away over $2 million in goods and services in order to support American troops during the Korean War. This was one of the largest gifts that America had ever given away at that time. It also helped show America’s commitment to world peace and security. Since then, the air force gift history has continuedto be something very important for America’s military forces. In 2011, General David Petraeus gave away over $100 million in goods and services in order to help improve morale within American troops stationed overseas. This was another large donation from America towards global peace and security.
