Lacey is a town in Walla Walla County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,846 at the 2000 census. The Lacey–Lake Forest School District educates students in grades six through twelve. Lacey is located on the banks of the Columbia River, east of Seattle and south of Pullman. It has a land area of and as of the 2010 census had a population of 1,846. Lacey's economy revolves around agriculture and ranching; there are also a few small businesses in town. The first settler to arrived in what is now Lacey was John Short who built his log cabin in 1825. A post office called Lacey was established in 1829 and continued until 1907 when it was discontinued due to lack of residents. In 1856, Jno. Some of this history includes: developing into one of Northwest America's most important trade centers; hosting several presidential inaugurations (including Ulysses S. Grant, Abraham Lincoln, and Franklin D. Roosevelt); being home to several major military engagements during World War II including Operation Overlord; and being part of the Seattle metropolitan area when it joined with Portland to form what is now called Multnomah County in 1980.
