Lacey is a small town in Washington state, located on the Kitsap Peninsula. The population was 5,811 as of the 2010 census. Lacey is part of the South Puget Sound area and is bordered by Bremerton to the north, Bainbridge Island to the east, and Seattle to the south. It's named after a girl who lived there during World War II. The first European settlers arrived in 1836 when Alexander Kitsap set out from Tacoma with his family. In 1855, John Wesley Powell discovered Gold at Lacey Lake and named it for his friend and employer, Lacey Brothers mine owner George H. Smith Sr., one of only two men ever to have been honored with this distinction by US presidents (the other being Grant). In 1907, an oil well was drilled on Lacey Beach just offshore from town limits; this led to increased development in the area subsequent years including several larger factories which used up most of what Lakeshore had wrought before them. By 1935, however, much of Lakeshore had been lost due to subsidence caused by over-pumping groundwater from nearby mines but people were still migratory enough so that many businesses continued until about 1957 when open pit gold mining began operations adjacent to town limits sinking through hillslopes eastward into underground water reserves beneath Lakeshore National Monument whereupon production ceased abruptly because of environmental concerns over potential release of substances harmful both to humans and aquatic life that went undetected for more than 60 years despite human-caused surface blowouts finally revealing underlying dumps magma 2 miles belowground! Lacey has experienced economic revitalization beginning in earnest around 2000 as a result of its proximity to Asia/Seattle as well as homegrown technology companies like Microsoft ( precursor Aurum ) which moved their headquarters here starting in 2001 while also creating jobs Connecting people across industries through various startups accelerator programs such as STARTUP Nation

Lacey is a small town in Washington County, Oregon. The population was 553 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Portland-Vancouver-Hillsboro, OR-WA Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lacey was founded in 1881 by 33 men and women who had emigrated from England. Lacey post office opened on October 17, 1881. The name "Lacey" comes from an early settler, John Lacey, who named his farm after himself and his wife Jane. In 1885, Charles Goodyear donated land to the town for a school and church building. A general store soon followed on the east side of Main Street. In 1889, Lacey became a city with incorporation under its own charter as "Lacey, Oregon". The first mayor was John Fenton (1889-1920). The first city council included Elisha Haggerty (1904-1971), Harry Gates (1905-1972), Shelburne Dutton (1907-1988) and Everett Jinks (1970-1983). In 1907, local pioneers Maud Sayers and her husband built what would become one of Lacey's most significant landmarks - their $5 million ($ in 2019) ranch house known as Sayers House/Rancho Grande which still stands today just outside town limits! The house has been used as a bed & breakfast since it was built but also hosts several cultural events each year including music evenings featuring local talent or art exhibitions by locals or visiting artists.........
