Lacey is a town in Douglas County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,564 at the 2010 census. Lacey is part of the Wenatchee–Douglas Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Lacey" was given to the community by pioneer settlers on July 3, 1876 when they set up a post office in an area now known as Lacey Heights. The first postmaster was Wm. Hurd and his wife Nellie. When Lacey became a town on February 17, 1903 it had a population of only six people. In 1912 the railroad arrived and changed how life in Lacey functioned; now most jobs were provided by the railroad company which helped to bring about economic development for the community during that time period. In 1958 Lacey voters passed a referendum question asking if they wanted to become incorporated as a city with its own police and fire departments like those found in other communities within Douglas County. The vote passed with over 60% of votes being cast in favor of incorporation into what would eventually be called Lilac City (named after then-Mayor Ernie Kuker's daughter). On November 7, 1959 Lilac City achieved statehood from Douglas County becoming one of Washington's fifty jurisdictions under statehood laws that year Lasley has been home to many notable people including businessman Walt Whitmanobeigh who founded Whitmanobeigh Bank and Trust Company which still operates today
