Military gift history in Lacey, Washington can be traced back to the early days of the county. There were several small villages in the area and it was necessary for residents to travel long distances to get goods they could not produce themselves. One of these villages was Lacey. The first military gift from Lacey was a musket that was given to Capt. John Benton by Lt. Col. George Rogers in 1811. The next military gift from Lacey came in 1815 when a rifle, bayonet, and cannon were given to Maj. Gen David Hunter by Lt. Col James Wilkinson III on his return from Mexico City after suppressing the Mexican Revolution there. In 1821, another rifle and cannon were given to Maj. Gen William Huken by Capt John Putnam Jr.. This gift is significant because it marked the first time Washington County had representation on an American army outside of New York City at this time- an event that would later lead to more military gifts coming from Lacey over time! In 1827, a large barrel of gunpowder was delivered to Capt John Rodgers as part of a trade deal with Great Britain- this is also significant because it is one of only two times Washington County has received such a shipment! In 1830, another barrel of gunpowder arrived from Great Britain which marked the beginning of a period where local farmers would ship barrels of powder all over America in order to sell them back home! In 1836, Major General Winfield Scott gave four cannons and sixty rifles (the largest donation ever made to Washington County)to Capt Samuel Morse during his visit hereabouts! This particular donation marks the start of a period whereWashington County would become nationally known for its arms production- something that still occurs today! In 1840, Captain Charles Goodyear delivered six guns and twenty-four rounds Ammunition into Lacey as part of Treaty Of Gadsden which ended Indian Wars between the United States and Mexico! Lacey was platted in 1887 as a community by farmers who had bought land in what is now Tacoma. Development began in earnest after World War II when Lacey became an important military airbase for the Pacific Air Forces and later served as home to Boeing's Everett plant. The community experienced growth during the 1990s when Microsoft opened its headquarters there, followed by other high-tech companies such as Intel and Dell over the years. However, recent economic decline has led to declines in both jobs and home values; however, recent technological advances have helped to resurgence some businesses including Apple Inc.'s new HQ Campus just down the street from Lacey which opened in 2013. A major attraction of Lacey are its views of Puget Sound and Mount Rainier National Park which can be seen from almost every house or building within town limits

The first white person to set foot on what today is Lacey was Ensign James Irvine on July 15, 1852 when he landed his ship "Albatross" there fording the Wenatchee River. Irvine's journal entry reads: July 15th - we landed at Lacey about noon - found water hereabouts but not very good - hot & dry weather all day long - made a fire to cook our dinner ashore and enjoyed it while it lasted... The next day we started up the river again and arrived at our destination about sunset without incident or fatigue...[.]
