In Longview, Washington, the Coast Guard has been providing law enforcement and security services for more than 120 years. It is one of the oldest continuously operating law enforcement agencies in the United States. The Coast Guard was founded on December 12, 1915 as a part of the Boston police force. In 1940, the Coast Guard merged with the United States Army to form the United States Marine Corps. In 1965, when Congress passed legislation creating an independent Coast Guard Department within the Department of Transportation, the Coast Guard continued to be headquartered in Boston. By 1936 there were over 2200 members and crew aboard all types of vessels afloat and ashore belonging to both federal and state agencies including 5Marine squadron (1st Light Cruiser Squadron) at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard which had converted at Bremerton & Tacoma Bay area; 1 Naval Air Station Everett (later reactivated Northwest Aeronautical Laboratory); 3 Patrol Boat Squadrons stationed along coast Line - 2 First Class Patrol Boats (Lifeboat Service), 3 Paddlewheel Launches and 4 Launch Platforms - these manned by Reserve Officers or privates; Lifeguard Service detachment manned by civilians under contract with Federal government;and two Coastal Defense Squadron units equipped with anti-aircraft guns located at Sellwood Navy Yard( later South Seattle Naval Shipyard) – these served as Reserve Units not affiliated with Regular military service The highly mobile mounted machinegun on patrol boats called "Lagoon" saw action during World War II in North Africa where it contributed fire support for landing forces ashore against well organized Axis forces including mountain armies attempting crossings into Egypt through Aswan Valley; during Normandy Invasion operation "Operation Market Garden" off Hollandia Beach on 7 May 1944 as detachments fired 6 rounds per minute from 17 inch gunboats while they patrolled near shore supported by destroyer escorts escorting carrier task force making Zeebrugge Harbor entrance; During Korean War patrol off Songjin Peninsula Aug 1950-Jan 1951 Huntmaster class patrol boat USS Triton chanced upon fishing vessel Kukenion Maru while patrolling 350 miles southward east of Korea Shelled approximately 21 times resulting in no casualties

The Coast Guard has been providing service to the US and its ally, Great Britain since 1790. The genesis of the Coast Guard can be traced back to the Continental Navy during the Revolutionary War. The need for a national security force became clear after British forces took over New York City in 1776. The navy was not able to provide security for the city so a group of private individuals decided to form a volunteer organization called the “Navy Reserve” in order to provide that security. In 1821, an act was passed by Congress which created both the United States Coast Guard and an Admiralty Board as part of Department of Commerce and Fisheries (DOC). On July 1, 1912, with passage of Pub.L. No. 471, title I, it was authorized to accept gifts from public sources including charities and private individuals within twelve months after such gift is received by DOC or any successor agency carrying on similar functions under this title (1 U.S.C., secs., 601-605). In 1934, Congress passed Public Law 89-569 giving authority for state coast guard organizationsNamely California State Patrol and Florida State Patrolto receive Federal funds through grants rather than contributions from their respective state legislatures (2 USC Secs 602 et seq.). This change increased Federal funding available for coastal safety activities while decreasing state contribution requirements thus opening up more resources to help states patrol their coasts better (3 USC Sec 601(a)). On December 15th 1978 President Jimmy Carter made his first visit as President of America when he toured the USS Constitution Museum in Newport News Virginia which served as the Headquarters for American Coastal Command during World War II (4 USC Sec 401(a)). He also toured two other USS Constitution Museum sites; one at Kings Bay Naval Shipyard in Georgia and one at Charleston Naval Shipyard in South Carolina.(5 USC Sec 553(b) & 554). It should be noted that Presidents have visited more museum sites related to our coastline than any other branch of government! Longview is a small town in Ferry County, Washington, United States. The population was 2,099 at the 2010 census. It lies on the Salmon River and is part of the Yakima metropolitan area. The first settler in what is now Longview was John Swanton in 1847. In 1905, it merged with nearby Post Falls to form a single incorporated municipality. The town began as a farming community located on the banks of the Salmon River. By 1870, most of the village had been destroyed by fire and hard times caused by railroad construction near the town site. Reconstruction started in earnest in 1917 when President Woodrow Wilson announced his New Deal program which included financial assistance for rural areas like Longview. Many new businesses were established during this time including Jardine's Sporting Goods store and Everett Brewing Company; both still operate today within walking distance of their original locations. In 1929, voters passed an ordinance creating a school district that would serve all residents of Ferry County not only those living within 1 mile of either Main Street or Post Falls Square but also those living less than 5 miles from any post office or school house (the exceptions being for students attending Yakima High School). Today’s Elementary School (grades PK-8) and Middle School (grades 9-12) are located at 6th Avenue NE and Central Boulevard NE respectively while Vocational Technical Institute/HighSchool serves portions of Ferry County outside of Longview limits; these boundaries remain unchanged since they were implemented more than sixty years ago! As early as 1912 there were efforts underway to build a dam across the Salmon River which would have created Lake Tolmie but these proposals ultimately did not come to fruition because loud noise from ReachTelCom phone lines interfered with birds singing over water! On October 3rd 1944 LongVIEW successfully repelled Japanese attackers who had landed on its shores just before daybreak local time after 8 days aborted Operation Neptune’s Spear which was aimed at destroying important bridges overriver linking Spokane with Tacoma
