Longview is a town in Douglas County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,867 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Yakima and Wenatchee– EasternDouglas metropolitan areas. As early as 1855, Longview had two stores and one sawmill operating together. In 1872, the first post office was established in Longview. A school was built in 1876 and a church in 1886. The community name originated with John P. Long who donated land to the town for its establishment and also named it after himself. The first store opened on December 12th 1870 by Wm Higginson and became known as the "Long View Store". On January 25th 1902 Jno Estridge started another store which became known as the "Everett Store" due to its location next to Everett High School until it closed in 1967 when Everett moved out of town. In 1905, a dam was constructed across Deer Creek for irrigation purposes; this created some new residents who named their communities after various rivers or lakes near them (such as Stevens Lake, Canisteo Lake and Snohomish River). One such community developed around what is now Longview: Deer Lakeside Communities Incorporated (Deer Lakeside).. These communities were dissolved by state government dissolution laws in 1990 but their names still remain used today within certain limits within Douglas County’s boundaries especially at times when peak water levels are exceeded – most notably spawning time for chinook salmon near Stevens Lake Dam during late summer weeks! On October 6th 1914 Leland Sorenson set fire to an apple tree on his property east of town while his family slept; this destroyed approximately 20 acres of forest about 2 miles from town center where apples grew for market thousands of years! Mr Sorenson received a $5 fine from the county sheriff but no damages were done other than some damage to trees on his farmhouse! In 1923 there were three grocery stores open: Mrs King's Market & Grocery (later renamed Tacoma Safeway), Pacific Grocery Company (later renamed Northwest Grocery) and Empire Grocery Co-operative which operated between 1922-1927 before being bought by Safeway because they wanted more space inside their building - Empire closed down later that year due to financial problems caused by World War II Japanese Americans interned during Pearl Harbor . In 1941 Watts Hardware opened up on NE First Street opposite Everett High School - this store continued into operation until 1984 when Watts went out of business due to lack of demand atheoughout the area surrounding it!. In 1948 there was a movie theater called Century Drive Place which played mainly musical films before moving out towards Safeway where it continued into operation until 1997; it reopened in 2007 as Everett Movies Theatre! In 1951 Town Hall replaced Pioneer Courthouse which served primarily both civil court functions including marriages/civil divorces services plus elections - remodeled from existing frame courthouse with additions throughout following decade . Between 1961-1973 Richter Construction did all exterior renovations including adding an attached garage +/- 1965 addition (+2 stories), new rooflines + gables over original eaves + brick quoins + red slate tilework =Richter's masterpiece !!!!!
