There is no doubt that the airforce has had a significant impact on Monroe, Washington over the years. The militia force that was once headquartered in town and supported by the airforce has now been reduced to an insignificance due to budget cuts. However, many of the same people who made up the militia have also helped make Monroe one of the most technology- friendly communities in North America. Monroe's relationship with the airforce began with its first military base, Fort Lewis, which opened in 1949. This base was used for training pilots and providing support for USAF operations in Southeast Asia. Unfortunately, Fort Lewis closed down in 1992 after decades of use and it was replaced by Joint Base Lewis-McChord. On July 1st, 1997, Joint Base Lewis-McChord became home to Air Force Reserve Command (AFC) Headquarters. AFC headquarters are responsible for all reserve Component activities within Washington State and Oregon as well as managing excess Bushnell land holdings within those states. Since then, AFB Spokane (closed down in 2006) has served as Headquarters for Air Combat Command (ACC) Pacific Northwest Region - an addition which greatly improved communications between ACC locations throughout NWRegion during peacetime while at the same time accommodating increased airport activity due to growth in Seattle and Tacoma (+50% since 2000). Finally on August 15th 2017 AFRC Headquarters relocated from our old location at Wright Field – where they had been serving since 1946 – to MCAS Lemelson near Tacoma when Wright Field closed its doors effective September 30th of that year

Monroe is a town in Washington County, Oregon, United States. The population was 1,829 at the 2010 census. It is named after James Monroe, the 21st President of the United States from 1868 to 1887. The town was founded in 1903 by John Pemberton and his wife, Ada. It first consisted of just a few homes and a store. The town grew rapidly when it became known for its fruit crops and timber production. In 1925, the Pembertons donated land to become an incorporated village called Monroe.
