The United States Army was founded in 1775 as a militia to protect the Americans from British invasion. The modern U.S. Army was formed on September 25, 1881 when President Benjamin Harrison signed legislation called the National Military Act. This act created the Department of War and made the Regular Army an independent branch of the military with its own command structure and headquarters. Throughout American history, there have been many unique gifts given to members of the U.S.Army, some of which are still in use today! Here is a partial list of some famous army gift history: 1) M-1911 pistols - These pistols were distributed as Gifts to Soldiers during World War I by Colonel George Armstrong Custer's regiment (the 4th Infantry). After America's victory over Germany in 1918, these pistols became popular among soldiers all around the world and continue to be used by law enforcement agencies today. 2) Combat knives - In 1917, General John J Pershing ordered all U.S troops be issued combat knives instead of just simple straight knives like most people had at that time. As a result, this gave soldier's new "knives for every purpose" ability which quickly became popular within the military! Today, any GI can purchase a knife online or at a store near you! 3) T-bar mace - One of the earliest gifts ever given to members of the U.SArmy was a T-bar Mace which was given to Major General James Longstreet along with other supplies during his march from Petersburg Heights through South Carolina towards Augusta on April 12th 1865 (known as March On Washington). This Mace is still in use today and has become one of America's most popular tourist attractions!

Monroe is home to the United States Army Garrison, Fort Lewis. The fort was built in 1854 and served as a post of honor for U.S. officers and soldiers during the Mexican-American War and American Civil War. It also housed the Washington State Arsenal, which produced arms for the military from 1855 until 1931. In 1907, Fort Lewis became headquarters of the 1st Infantry Division of the National Guard. As part of World War II mobilization, it played a key role in providing food for troops in Hawaii and other Pacific islands; later it served as an artillery garrison responsible for protection of Puget Sound from Japanese aggression in 1942-1945. Today, Fort Lewis is home to an artillery battalion responsible for firing at targets located throughout WA on various military exercises and deployments around the state

Monroe was one of the most important and influential U.S. Presidents during his time. He served as the 45th President of the United States from 1901 to 1909 and also held other high-ranking government positions such as Secretary of War, Attorney General, and Secretary of State. Monroe is considered to be one of America’s Founding Fathers and played a significant role in creating our country’s system of self-government. Born in New York on July 20, 1785, Monroe was elected as a Democrat to the U.S. Senate in 1801 and then became an integral part of George Washington’s cabinet after he took office as President on January 10, 1797. In 1800, Monroe was chosen Vice President under James Ketchum, but he lost that election to John Adams by less than 1% of the vote. He won re-election as Vice President with 50% support in 1804 but was unable to win a majority against Adams because many Americans were angry over Aaron Burr’s coup d'état which overthrew Robespierre's French government in 1794. Monroe furthered his political career by becoming Secretary of War under James Ketchum from 1806 until 1809 and then Attorney General under John Quincy Adams from 1825 until his death two years later at the age of 80 years old. As Attorney General, he helped bring about passage of The Speedy Trial Act (1829) which regulated trials by jury instead of judges, made it easier for criminals to get off trial by pleading guilty instead of going through trial with all their evidence known up front, and increased prosecutions for white slave trading crimes from five prosecutions per 1000 cases to fifty prosecutions per 1000 cases between 1830 and 1840. Monroe died aged 80 years old on November 15th in Washington D.C., four days after being sworn into office as 45th president following James Ketchum's death two months earlier due to natural causes caused by a heart attack
Monroe was named for James Monroe, the 5th U.S. President who served from 1829 to 1837.
