The town experienced some growth during the late 1990s and 2000s as developers constructed new homes and businesses on land adjacent to Moccasin Creek golf course and within walking distance of several stores and restaurants. During this time, criticisms emerged about how much noise residents were making from their construction activities; however, no formal complaints were filed with city or county officials until 2014 when one resident published an online petition calling for increased bounds on noise levels at overnight construction projects
