Moses Lake is a small town in the Yakima Valley of south-central Washington. The population was 1,821 at the 2010 census. Moses Lake is located on the east side of Moses Lake Reservoir and it adjoins Yakima to the north. The community is part of the Moses Lake–Everett, WA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first mention of Moses Lake occurs in 1853 when George Meeker wrote about a "large and flourishing village" near present-day Moses lake. In 1902, James Manton described the town as consisting of "a few houses and some outbuildings." By 1910, there were only 117 residents living in the town limits; however, by 1970, that had increased to 2,041 residents. Moses Lake has been inhabited by various tribes for centuries. Tribes include: Nisqually, Lummi Nation (Hahki), Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs (Wapato), Siuslaw Tribe (Klahoma), and Puyallup Tribe (Pualalo). In 1854 when Chief Joseph attempted to flee from slavery on his way to Canada with his people, he was captured by forces led by Colman Ferry and taken back to Yakima County near modern day Soochowtitlán First Nation reserve northeast of MosesLake. After three months being held without food or water in what is now Pioneer Valley outside Yakima Falls National Monument, Joseph was liberated on July 22nd 1855 by US Cavalry under General Winfield Scott after an eleven weeks long siege at Fort Leavenworth following a series of failed attempts by Native American groups including ChiefsJoseph's family and two hundred warriors from Wapato tribe led by Captain John Stoneman which began on June 20th 1855 nearpresent day Mount Vernon Heights neighborhood also known as Waheenoe Ridge neighborhood On September 3rd 1850 United States Indian Agent Rollin Houghton recorded an allotment sale conducted between Chehalis tribe led by Chief Joseph Myres and Ute tribe ledchief Blackfeet Harry Stevens for 4 hundreds acres within present day tribal boundaries southeast boundary line running due Northwest along Raft River then Southwesterly along current I-5 Highway transcending said line thence Northwest joining reservation bounds forming today's unincorporated area comprising much parts of Yahntzcek Township plus most part adjoining Soochowtitlán First Nation Reserve lying East along Raft River thence Southwest along said line formulating today's unincorporated area called Yahntzcek Township In 1862 government officials removed all non-Indian citizens from Jacobus County beginning with Eagle Point Agency until white settlers arrived On January 15th 1865 new county boundaries were established including allename portions extending into Wahkeena Territory becoming Wahkeena County on February 14th 1865 With landowning families receiving title deeds divided among them according to their respective amounts contributed towards building up post office become available As compensation they received cattle drives into newly allotted territory

The town was founded in 1881 by members of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, who were looking for a water supply for their expedition. Moses Lake was named after the biblical patriarch, Moses. The village had a population of about 150 people when it was platted in 1881, and only grew to around 350 people during the early 20th century. In 1951, Moses Lake became part of Thurston County and has since been an agricultural community with a focus on hay, grapes, apples and other crops. The townsite is still home to a few residences as well as the local post office and restaurant. The history of Moses Lake begins with its connections to the Lewis & Clark Expedition. One account says that while on their journey through what is now Washington State they came across an area that would be perfect for farming – including plenty of good water resources. After resting at some nearby hilltops they set out on their next leg of the journey, which would end up taking them all the way to Canada. Upon reaching their destination they found that there was no water available so they went back home but left behind enough supplies so that another expedition could explore what lay ahead should they find similar conditions again on their return trip later that year. Other reports say that one possible reason why there wasn’t any water available near Mount Olympus during this time period was because it had been dried out by winter rains weeks earlier! Whatever the case may have been, it seems clear that these men were inspired to establish a new settlement at what would become Moses Lake due to its potential availability! One person who played an important role in helping beginning settlers get started at Moses Lake was Calvert Horseshoe farmstead owner John Sibley Sr.. He donated land east of town for use as farms west of Thurston County did not yet have access to irrigation systems or sufficient room for homes! This initial step helped add stability and assurance to developments along Highway 99W which would followed soon thereafter! Over time various businesses sprung up around town such as hardware store (1901), grocery store (1902), laundry (1903), post office (1905) and more! All these businesses served an essential purpose – providing essential goods and services needed by residents alike! However, it wasn’t until 1955 when telephone service arrived which allowed residents much easier communication within our town! And even then things didn’t stop there; schools began opening up throughout our community which continued until 1978 when Thurston County consolidated into King County!!! Today we continue to enjoy excellent educational opportunities here in MosesLake thanks largely to our local school district!!!
Moses Lake is a reservoir in the State of Washington and is also known as the Moses Lake Reservoir. The name Moses Lake was given to the reservoir by James W. Kitson, who developed the area around it. The first recorded reference to Moses Lake was in 1854 when Territorial Surveyor George Stephenson named it after Mount Sinai, which he had seen from his horseback ride near Yachats. In 1872, USGS Superintendent Isaac Newton river named Creek tributary of Snake River following its course through Moses Lake National Forest. In 1915, territorial surveyor Lorenzo Simpson renamed the lake after General George Custer and his men who had died during their battle with Native Americans at Little Bighorn National Battlefield in Montana
