In 1887, coffee beans were roasted on private property near modern-day Moses Lake by Nicholas and John Arnold. The first coffee shop in Moses Lake opened in 1916. By 1962, there were six coffee shops in Moses Lake with an average of eleven customers per day. The growth of the internet and online ordering has impacted the businesses in Moses Lake; however, most of these businesses continue to operate today thanks to their loyal customer base and online presence. Today's roasting industry started off small with just three locations throughout Douglas County back in the early 1990s when it was still a rural area with little access to technology or banking options.
