The history of maga coffee can be traced back to Moses Lake, Washington. The first mention of maga coffee was in 1892 when a man by the name of Harry Witherspoon purchased a bag of beans from an Italian trader named Antonio. From this purchase, Witherspoon began to import and sell maga coffee across the United States. In 1916, Harry Witherspoon's son-in-law, John Kapp, opened the first known microbrewery in Moses Lake. Kapp's brewery was initially called "The Coffee House." It was during this time that maga coffee became popular throughout the Northwest. In 1949, Gordon Biersch Incorporated entered into an agreement with Harry Witherspoon's son-in-law, John Kapp Jr., and started manufacturing and selling maga coffee under the name "Gordon Biersch Maga Coffee." By 1972, Gordon Biersch had decided to discontinue production of maga coffee and ceased sales at their Moses Lake facility. However, their legacy lives on through their subsidiary "Biersch Bros." which is still located in Moses Lake today.

MosesLake has since seen steady growth with more than 30 businesses currently operating within its borders- making it one of Washtenaw County's fastest growing communities into recent memory
