The first coffee shop in town was opened in 1886 by two German immigrants, Johann and Emilie Kapp. It was called the Kapp Coffee House and served only coffee. In 1893, the first grocery store in town was opened by Wm. H. Pohl and his wife Ida. They sold groceries as well as coffee from their house. From there on, it was only a matter of time until a shop popped up to serve tactical coffee drinks like espresso and cappuccino. That's what happened in 1922 when Harry Bowers opened his first café called The Grapes of Wrath Coffee Shop at 9th Avenue and State Street in Moses Lake. Mr. Bowers brewed all of his own coffee beans and served up astounding Tactical Espresso drinks that are still popular today! That same year also saw the opening of The Dutch Bros., which is now considered to be the pioneer of modern-day tactical cafes around the world! They started out serving Dutch chocolate cake withinator (an amazing blend of espresso, milk foam, chocolates) for breakfast followed by an afternoon cup of joe or latte! From there on out, it was just a matter of time before more cafes popped up all over town serving top-notch tactical coffee drinks!
