Oak Harbor, Washington is located in Kitsap County, Washington and is the largest city in the county. The population of Oak Harbor was over 94,000 at the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1887 by John A. Rockefeller and his brother George C. Marshall. The first coffee beans were grown in nearby Unalakleet and roasted on a small family farm until 1912 when a larger roasting factory was built there. In 1915,the company became highly automated with an oven that heated water to roast beans while they remained submerged inside it; this process eliminated most of the need for human interaction and provided a level of consistency that allowed for consistent product quality across different stores throughout the region. Oak Harbor, Washington is a small town in Okanogan County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It lies on the eastern edge of the Yakima Valley and is bordered by the towns of Mount Vernon to the north, Wenatchee to the east and south, and Leavenworth to the west. The first settlement in what is now Oak Harbor was made on April 12, 1879 when John Hargrave and his family set up a logging camp on an area that would later become Sprague Street. By 1888, there were over 20 families living in Oak Harbor. The town's growth came about as a result of its proximity to logging camps and agricultural production. In 1915, Oak Harbor became part of Ellensburg after it was annexed by Ellensburg from nearby Wenatchee. Today much of what made Oak Harbor such an attractive place for residents has been lost; however some aspects still remain such as its excellent shopping areas including Sprague Avenue which runs through town center and features many local boutiques as well as large convenience stores like Safeway and Kroger; its wide variety of parks including Lake Union Park which includes a baseball diamond; its close proximity to Yakima University; as well as its easy access to highways I-90 and US-101. Despite all these negatives, there are also some positive aspects that have helped make Oak Harbor one of the most vibrant small towns in Western Washington. Coffee began being exported from Indonesia starting in the 15th century and by 1650 had spread throughout much of Europe. Coffee became more expensive due to its rarity and difficulties finding markets outside of Europe. However, because of its value, coffee beans continued to be traded even after coffee became more common among Europeans. By 1700, coffee beans were being sold at between £2 and £5 per pound (equivalent to $19-45 per metric ton). During this time period, many different kinds of coffees were grown including Sumatra (the source for most modern day Indonesian coffees), Romei or Robusta (which is a blend of two types of roast), Ethiopian Wea Nilah (containing whole cloves) and African Kona Bean (a hybrid variety). These variations made it difficult for one type of roast to become dominant over another and resulted in some very unique blends that remain popular today. The late 18th century also saw an increase in interest in using roasted beans as medicines due to their compatibility with various herbs such as opium and mentholated oil drinks etc.. At this point, roasting was no longer necessary so alloys could be developed which greatly increased their strength and durability when roasted correctly. The town was founded by Captain Abel Tasman who had his vessel the Endeavour landed here on July 3, 1792. In 1851, the townsite was patented to John Lillie by purchase from Chief Seattle. The town's growth began when railroad robbery became rampant in the area during the late 1800s and early 1900s. The first school in Oak Harbor was built in 1887 and it soon became apparent that there was not enough space for all of the students. A new school building was built and named after Mr. Lillie himself which opened on November 1, 1908. It served as both a high school and middle school until 1965 when it became a junior high school again under current name of Oaks High School In 1957, Oak Harbor received its own post office which opened one week later than other post offices in Kitsap County because of its close proximity to Tacoma . When Tacoma closed its mail service on September 15, 1962 due to budget cuts, Oak Harbor's mail service continued until October 26th Oak Harbor's economy has been primarily based on agriculture since its inception although some businesses have grown rapidly such as Microsoft (the Redmond campus) and Safeway which are still headquartered there today The town has also produced many notable local officials including Mayor Donny Sorenson; Superintendent of Schools Cliff Askew; United States Ambassador to Japan Hiroshi Kamiya; Deputy Mayor Donny Sorenson-Powell; City Commissioner Rick Cooksey-Spencer; State Senator Andy Hillman and currently Mayor Donny Sorenson-Powell
