Oak Harbor is a town in Clark County, Washington, United States. The population was 5,914 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit the region were fur traders led by Capt. George Vancouver in 1792-93 and their ships " Discovery " and " Resolution ". The first permanent European settler in Oak Harbor was James Cook in 1820 who named it after his ship HMS " Discovery ". He also built a small log cabin on what is now State Route 99. In 1827, Alexander Macdonald established a store here while surveyor general for Canada on his trip across North America. In 1830 he married Anna Maria Olmsted and changed the name of the town to Oak Harbor after her parents' house on Third Street SW. In 1880, lumber baron Alfred Pritzker bought much of what is now Oak Harbor from British Columbia for $1 million dollars. He designated most of what is now downtown as his new city park; within two years he had built nearly all of its buildings including an opera house and theater which still stands today (the current building replaced an earlier structure that burned down). The early 20th century sawOak Harbor expanded with the opening of several stores and businesses such as J's Lumber Company (now known as Diamond Supply), Wagon Wheel Clothing Store (now known as Macy's), First National Bank (now Wells Fargo) and numerous apartment buildings housing many people from Seattle . It is also significant because it was one of only two sites throughout peacetime where U.S.-built amphibious assault ships could be moored side-by-side for mutual training exercises with Brazilian navy vessels known as Regatas Atlânticas (Atlas oceans).

Oak Harbor is a small town in the state of Washington, located on the Olympic Peninsula. The population was 5,731 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Thurston County micropolitan area. The town was founded in 1881 by J.C. Morrow and others as an agricultural colony called Gilpin Bay. In 1925, it became a community when its residents moved from Gilpin Bay to what is now downtown Oak Harbor. The name change came about because of nearby Seattle's first airmail service facility, which was located at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport then called Lake Washington Air Terminal (now Seahawks Stadium). At that time, Oak Harbor had only one grocery store and no other businesses of any sort; however, after the airport opened up and began serving more customers than ever before, merchants throughout Puget Sound started to arrive in droves to open up shop there. In recent years, downtown has become home to several restaurants, a library, and various shops including art galleries and antique stores; as well as many local government buildings such as The county courthouse and jail.
Oak Harbor was founded in 1892 by James W. Nicholson and his wife, Emma. The Nicholson family ran a farm until 1915 when they sold it to the city of Seattle. The new owners built a light industrial park on the site and began to develop it into an urban center. In 1949, Oak Harbor became one of the first towns in Washington state to be incorporated as a city. The city has since grown rapidly, with several expansions and renovations over the years.
