In 1990, The Bazaar restaurant opened on Second Avenue and served Turkish Coffee and tea. The restaurant closed in 2001. In 2002, Blue Bottle Coffeeopened on Third Avenue serving Ethiopian, Columbian, Caribbeanan, Swiss-Swiss Blends as well as their own unique roastings of each blend cup for purchase or delivery to customers' homes (this service continued until 2010). Oak Harbor is a town in Skagit County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,856 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle–Tacoma metropolitan area. The first permanent European settlers in Oak Harbor were two brothers, John and David Murdoch, who arrived on July 4, 1814 from New York City. They named their new community "Murdochville" after their father-in-law, Sir John Murdoch (1768-1840). In 1835 the name was changed to Oak Harbor after Naval Yard Commander Commodore George S. Oakham donated land for the town's initial construction. The town was incorporated on February 14, 1886 by vote of the municipal council members. The village of Oak Harbor was platted in 1907 but never developed because it was located too far northeast of Seattle and Tacoma proper on Puget Sound and its inhabitants were too expensive to relocate there. A group of businessmen led by Harry Chandler bought 7 acres (2 ha) southwest of downtown from Nelsye Stevens in 1912 for $10,000 and began developing what would become known as Chandler Heights with houses built between 1915 and 1922 using local sandstone blocks quarried along Williamette Bay shoreline. chandler heights became an enclave within our city when we annexed lake tahoe in 1962

Oak Harbor is a town located in Kitsap County, Washington, United States. The population was 3,711 at the 2010 census. Oak Harbor is part of the Thurston County Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in what is now Oak Harbor were three families from Holland who arrived onshore on ship "Hecla" in 1855. They named their land "Holland" after their home country and started a small farm there. In 1907, the Seattle-based DuPont company donated land to the town for development as an industrial site. The town's first industry was a paper mill that operated until 1949. After years of growth and progress, Oak Harbor's economy began to decline during the late 1990s due to changes in technology and labor markets. However, recent investment has revived much of its once struggling economy with new businesses such as software development and biotechnology startups opening up shop there again. The history of Oak Harbor goes back many years beyond just occasional settler arrivals orDuPont donations; it’s actually one of Kitsap County’s most longstanding communities dating back to when Volcanic Island served as a mainstay for maritime trade between Puget Sound and Japan through which goods like lumber and seafood sailed arriving at Dutch vessels anchored offshore during springtime (the “season”). In 1855 an American whaling captain named John Watts sighted island while sailing from Dutch West Indies to San Francisco Bay – he thought it looked “very high & steep”! Noticing how quickly people had taken up residence hereabouts he christened this isolated volcanic island “Volcanic Island” because everyone on it seemed either very healthy or very wealthy! At some point prior to 1885 when Captain Watts visited again his records show that there were 4 white inhabitants living ashore including 2 children under 10 years old! When Tacomaite HJ Fuller discovered & explored Mount Baker area in 1888 he called this Hecla Island “Volcanic Isle” too! Of course by then DuPont had already given away all their land so we can only imagine where things would have gone if they still been around today…. Interesting side note: Prior to 1886 when HJ FullerExplored Mt Baker area we know that someone built a house on HeclaIsland but no one knows who did or why! A few years later July 8th 1887 saw another landmark event when US Navy Lt Cmdr David Farragut boarded USS Constitution at Pearl Harbour Naval Shipyard off Olympia Washington bound for Hawaii - his flagship became America's first warship ever launched from Japanese soil!!!
