As Pasco, Washington's most populous city, continues to grow and develop, its coffee culture has flourished. One of the earliest cafes in Pasco was founded in 1876 by Elias Howe, a Russian immigrant who ran a small grocery store on Capitol Hill. The cafe enjoyed success for many years until it closed in the early 1990s due to financial troubles. In 1993, entrepreneur Jeff Bezos opened Amazon Coffee stores throughout Seattle and Washington State. At first, Amazon Coffee only served coffee from Amazon Web Services warehouses; however, over time they began to offer other brands as well. In 2015, they started selling their own coffee beans branded as Amazon Coffee Turkey Mountain roasted near Mount Vernon in Kentucky. This marks the first time that any of Amazon's products have been offered directly to consumers through retail channels. Today there are numerous artisan coffee shops located throughout Pasco and its environs; some of which date back centuries while others have arisen relatively recently. Some of the oldest espresso bars in town are Fenton’s Cafe (opened 1895), The Arcade (opened 1914), and Joe’s Bar & Grill (opened 1949). Pasco, Washington is a small town in Thurston County,Washington. The population was 4,839 at the 2010 census. Pasco is home to the Pasco Senior High School and the Pasco-Guildford Chamber of Commerce. The first Europeans to visit Pasco were Capt. George Vancouver and his men on May 14, 1792. Captain Vancouver named this area "Wasuaktanka" meaning "Island of Peace" after he sighted an uninhabited island near what is now Pasco during his exploration of Puget Sound during the French and Indian War period. In 1821, John Cranch discovered gold in Whatcom County while exploring for a new route to California; this led to the discovery of other rich goldfields in western Washington Territory. In 1853, James Wickersham suggested that the United States build a railroad from Tacoma through Thurston County and into Oregon Territory; this led to the creation of the Seattle-Tacoma Railroad Company in 1855. The town began growth as agricultural settlers arrived and started developing businesses such as grocery stores, feed stores, schools and churches. By 1870, when it became organized as a city under state law, Pasco had over 10 thousand residents with $10 million worth of commerce conducted within its boundaries annually. When coffee was first introduced to Europe, it was roasted by Native Americans. For centuries, coffee beans were ground and brewed in small villages throughout Central and South America. Coffee started being exported to the European continent in the 16th century, and later became popular in North America. The early settlers of North America brought with them their own methods for roasting and brewing coffee, which ultimately led to the development of artisanal coffee production. In 1847, a group of Italian farmers founded Rome's first café, La Cavetta del Fiorentino. This establishment served as the first commercial center for espresso-based beverages in Italy. In 1865, Dutchman Hendrik Jan Segers began selling coffee at a grocery store in Amsterdam. The Dutch craftsmanship that characterized this period is what set Netherlands-based coffees apart from their Latin American counterparts. After World War II, a number of Frenchmen decided to move back to France after experiencing postwar U.S. economic stagnation firsthand; these men soon founded various cafés including Caffè Ristretto (1948) and Café Procida (1959). The popularity of artisanal coffee spread throughout Europe during this timeperiod; however, it wasn't until about 1975 that an industry governing body was established for this type of beverage called “Coffee Association Internationale” (CAI). Throughout the years there have been many innovations within Artisan Coffee History: 1) Brewers using whole bean instead of pre-ground beans gave rise to very different flavor profiles from those produced with pre-packaged "raw" or "roasted" coffees 2) A more selective attention towards quality control over all aspects - from roasting to grinding - yielded unique cup characteristics not found with other types of coffee products 3) greater use of natural flavors resulting in higher levels of complexity within each roast 4) Increasingly specialized machinery used for specific tasks such as French press brewing (introduced around 1840), cold brew manufacturing (introduced around 1960), slow pour methods and bagasse recycling/processing

Pasco is a city in Kitsap County, Washington, United States. The population was 34,653 at the 2000 census. Pasco is the county seat of Kitsap County and home to the main branch of Pierce County's government. Pasco became a town in 1884. It was incorporated as a city on February 15, 1907. On July 1, 1959 it merged with neighboring Bremerton to form the current Pasco Metropolitan Statistical Area. The history of Pasco goes back more than 350 years to traders and travelers who passed through its area on their way northward or southward from Seattle and other ports on Puget Sound. In 1792 Captains George Vancouver and Nicolas Orczy discovered what would later be called "Pacific Land" while sailing along the coast of present-day Washington state; they named it Vancouver Island after themselves and left instructions for future British explorers to find it. In 1827 Henry Wolkentin founded Wolkentin Landing on Point Defiance Bayou adjacent to what is now downtown Pasco; he soon realized that his landing could not handle all the people he hoped to attract by promising them land grants when they reached Tacoma or Bellevue (now Yakima). He sold most of his land east of Point Defiance Boulevard to settlers in 1828 but continued trading with Native Americans near his original site until 1830 when he abandoned shipwrecked passengers at Point Defiance Bayou because there was no water available for them ashore - an event which has been mythologized ever since as one of North America's earliest maritime disasters In 1851 John Wesley Powell explored much of modern day Western Washington including present day Pasco when he led a party down Snake Lake Road during an expedition sponsored by GovtColumbia Territory When gold was discovered at Gold Hill in 1861 many early entrepreneurs rushed into mining operations in central Puget Sound where gold had been found before but no silver had been found; this created a demand for goods that were not possible to produce without investment capital so entrepreneurs turned their attention towards new frontiers such as Tacoma and Bellevue where residents began establishing mills that produced flour, lumber, cheese, eggs, oilseed rape and hardware among other items The first post office in Pasco opened mail services between Tacoma and Bellevue on May 8, 1865 under subscription from local citizens . The Pasco area of Washington was first settled by the Pascua Journeying Band of Native Americans in the late 17th century. The first European to visit what is now Pasco County was Captain Juan Perez who landed on the present day Puget Sound in 1692. A year later, Lieutenant George Vancouver explored Puget Sound and named it after his friend and mentor, Juan Perez. In 1851, a group of gold seekers led by John C. Fremont discovered gold near what is now Pasco. This event helped spur the growth of the region and its industries such as logging and agriculture. The town of Pasco was founded in 1853 by members of the Gold Rush era mining community that had moved from California. The town quickly became a major local agricultural center with large holdings in lumber, flour, potatoes, cheese and other goods. By 1907, there were over 1,000 people living in Pasco with a variety of businesses including banks, grocery stores, hotels and schools. After World War II ended however, new development began to take hold as industry shifted away from agriculture towards manufacturing.
