Pasco, Washington is a city in Kitsap County, Washington, United States. The population was 21,405 at the 2010 census. Pasco is located on the Puget Sound and forms part of the Seattle metropolitan area. It lies on the banks of the Duwamish River between Seattle to the north and Tacoma to the south. Pasco was founded by Captain George Vancouver on July 3, 1792 as an outpost of his ship Discovery off what is now Pasco Bay. He named it after Prince George's County in Maryland where he had been born two years earlier. The first permanent European settlers arrived in 1794 when David Thompson led a party of fur traders from Nootka Sound across Elliott Bay and anchored near present-day Pasco Ferry Landing to establish a trading post with local natives. In 1824, Congress created Kitsap County out of parts of Puget Sound Territory and appointed land sales agent James Kapp to sell square miles (1/4 mile) around Pasco for farming or logging purposes along with any claims by other citizens who may have ownership within that area if not claimed within one year. In 1853, gold was discovered at Golden Beach nearby and started an influx of miners into Pasco which led to rapid growth during this time period as businesses built shacks and flour mills while people worked lye trying to find new diggings for gold nuggets that would turn into coins again storerooms became necessary as well as social clubs like Masonic Lodge #2 which met weekly at First Presbyterian Church until 1898 when services were moved out onto Beaver Street due to building construction going on adjacent thereto rendering it impossible for members meeting there regularly to attend services outdoors; also many Sunday School classes were offered here from early days up until about 1890 or so... Mining operations stopped suddenly about 1870 because unprofitable but continuous small discoveries made no significant amount treasure over several hundred dollars without yielding valuable metal since 1850 excepting some very small amounts found near current day town center during intense gold mining efforts leading up to1900 especially around 1900s despite large open dumps near mines today caused by heavy use during those years Some old abandoned mine shafts still contain significant quantities of lead ore today including one quite large recently emptied after closed more than 50 years... rustication began soon afterwards outside municipally owned property nearest downtown primarily due Gold Rush era buildings being replaced with newer style brick driven architecture mostly Italianate in design although some Federal Style buildings also survive among memorable examples are Tacoma State Hospital built in 1888–89 by Aiken & Sons architects who designed both Puyallup Falls Railway Station (1904), now University District shopping mall (1963) – all associated with then largest copper mining operation west of Seattle then active [now defunct], Northwestern Pacific Railroad Depotbuilt1893–95 by Jno Wicks & Son Architects successorsto Pioneer Brick Workshops adjacent NW corner Indianola Avenue & 5th Avenue facing Olympic Peninsula… All these structures reflect different periods in history when technological advances allowed greater efficiency rather than handcrafted construction typical back then… Many notable residents include: General Grant Wood US Army Quartermaster General during World War I; Everett Dirksen US Congressman from 1965-1983; pour le monde singer Guy Lombardo[5] Northwest manager emeritus for Safeway chain; author Cesar Romero[6]; Mayor Norm Stamper[7]; artist Loren Coleman[8]

Over time, other businesses followed suit: A mill established here in 1865 became one of WA's leading flour mills; an electric power plant was built just south of town during World War II; and Costco moved into town from Bellevue some years later (and continues to be headquartered there).
