The Puget Sound Naval Ship Museum in Pasco, Washington is home to the USS Constitution Museum. The museum is dedicated to the history of naval ships and crews in the Puget Sound area. The Constitution Museum was founded in 1967 as a research center for the Tacoma Maritime Commission. The museum moved to its current location on Pier 21 in Pasco in 1974. The USS Constitution Museum has a collection of over 10,000 pieces of naval equipment and artifacts from throughout Puget Sound History. This includes warships such as the USS Olympia (1896), USS San Francisco (1897), USS Discovery (1911), and USS Seattle (1916). As one of only two museums in Washington state devoted exclusively to naval ships, the Constitution Museum also has an extensive collection of maritime art including sketches, paintings, lithographs, and watercolors dating back to 1847. The United States Navy built fourteen vessels named after General James Kensey III who served as Commandant of Marine Barracks at Quantico during World War II: eleven destroyers and one cruiser. Of these vessels, six were commissioned into service with the navy between 1941-1945; three were lost during that time period or within months after completion; one was scrapped before commissioning while two saw active duty with distinction during World War II but were later stricken from Navy records.
