The first coast guard gift from Washington was a flagstaff. The first Coast Guard station in Puyallup was opened on December 12, 1851 by Captain John S. McCabe and First Lieutenant Augustus H. Howland. The present lighthouse was built in 1898. In 1903, the State of Washington passed an act authorizing the erection of a coast guard station at Puyallup with the purpose of preventing smuggling along the west coast. A committee was formed to raise money to finance this project and on July 1, 1903, the new station building was dedicated by Governor John Wickersham. The original building housed a single room with a bed and table for four officers and their families. In 1910, the second floor of Station Building 2 were added to house administrative offices and storage for equipment used by the Coast Guard during its enforcement operations along Puget Sound shores. This expansion allowed for the addition of additional command posts and other necessary facilities which are still used today including: Headquarters Command Post (now History Museum), Lifeboat Station (nowanchored offshore), Public Works Department (now Waterfront Development Agency), and Marine Fisheries Research Laboratory (later Experimental Fisheries Research Center). In 1934, following World War II as part of America's response to international trading regulations changed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal program, Congress established an Air Corps detachment at Puyallup that would provide air support for law enforcement activities on Puget Sound beaches during both day and night hours; however this detachment never operated due to financial restrictions placed upon it by congressmen from areas such as Seattle that had been invaded by Japan during World War II In 1965-1966 when construction began at Point Defiance Naval Base on what is now Eastern Harbor Beach adjacent to Terminal Island townhome development Phase I consisting of moorings for approximately 100 ships various helicopter padsfield office buildings barracks barracks housing pilots/tenders police officers etc., Coast Guard personnel served in duty uniforms while aircraft remained parked off shore until all hangers were destroyed after being damaged in lightning storms over winter 1966-1967 . In 1972 when new terminal went up at Point Defiance Naval Base annexing Terminal Island townhome developmentPhase II also included moorings for about 100 ships various helicopter padsfield office buildings barracks housing pilots/tenders police officers etc., again Coast Guard personnel served in duty uniforms while aircraft remained parked off shore until all hangers were destroyed after being damage

Puyallup is a town in Kitsap County, Washington, United States. The population was 8,477 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle metropolitan area. Puyallup's economy is mostly based on agriculture, with a small manufacturing sector. The first known residents of what is now Puyallup date back to 1858 when James Cougar and his family settled in the area after travelling from Oregon via Puget Sound and Whidbey Island. The Cougars were farmers who raised crops and sheep on their farmstead until 1872, when they sold their land to Wm. Hargrave for $1,000. Hargrave had been born near Olympia but came to live in Kitsap County as a young man and began real estate development there. He named his new town Waimea after his wife's family name – Waimea being an English word meaning "Island in the Strait of Juan de Fuca". Hargrave's wife died soon afterwards and he sold the town to John Cramer in 1874 for $2,500; it was renamed Puyallup in her memory. The first post office at Puyallup was established on February 14th, 1888; it was closed on May 1st of that year due to lack of mail volume from nearby Tacoma. The present-day post office has been open since December 15th 1969.. In 1914 Puyallup became one of thirteen towns located along Highway 101 between Everett and Tacoma which were merged into the newly created King County government under Governor Harry Benson.. After World War II many factories closed down or moved away during economic recession so industry growth returned starting in 1970s with construction of large buildings such as Boeing 747 factory(now Geek Squad). In recent years Puyalluppers have seen growth with some high end developments like Apple Store opening up next door to Safeway store creating even more competition for local businesses including loss by Amazon Warehouse downtown causing community reaction along side boycott efforts

Puyallup lies on the Puget Sound between Tacoma and Bellevue and is bordered by Thurston County to the east, Snohomish County to the north-west, and Kitsap County to the south-east. The original nucleus of Puyallup was founded by Nisqually people in 1792 from what is now Pierce County. The name comes from "walleppa", an Alaskan word meaning "a place where salmon run." In 1851, Puyallup became a stop on stagecoach routes connecting Seattle with Olympia and points beyond. By 1872, when it incorporated as a town, Puyallup had developed substantial lumberyards and cotton plantations; its steamboat dock served as a major port for commerce along Puget Sound. In 1907–08 during World War I (1914–18), most of what are now Prince George's county west of Seattle were acquired by King County including much of present-day Snohomish and Kitsap counties; this put pressure on local governments to provide services such as Streetscape Administration which provides land improvement work in unincorporated areas adjacent to county jurisdictions within King County while maintaining jurisdictional control over those areas
Puyallup was founded in 1853 by John P. Noyes and Charles W. Hensley, two of the founders of Tacoma. The town became a principal center for Puget Sound trade and industry after it was designated as the eastern terminus of the Oregon Trail in 1861. In 1863, Puyallup was also the site of the first successful commercial settlement in Puget Sound when James Fenton built a ferryboat service between Tacoma and Olympia. By 1870, Puyallup had become an important railway hub with several stations serving both local farmers and travelers traveling to Seattle, Portland, and other Pacific Northwest cities. The town's growth slowed during World War II as wartime production shifted towards Tacoma. However, Puyallup returned to its pre-war status as a major community during the postwar eras of economic development that followed World War II.
