The history of coffee in Puyallup, Washington goes back to the early 1800s. The first European settlers in the area came overland from Mexico and discovered a land that already had natural resources. They named their new land Puget Sound, after Mount Olympus, one of the major peaks in Oregon. Coffee was introduced to Puget Sound by Spanish traders in the mid-18th century. However, it wasn't until 1852 when coffee started to be grown onsite at the now defunct Snohomish County Fairgrounds. That year, a group of men from Seattle sent bythe ship " Esperanza" brought beans back with them for trade with local farmers. Over time, more and more people moved into Puyallup and began buying property around town for coffee plantations. Eventually, there were so many coffee plantations that it became difficult for consumers to find any specific type of coffee because they were all selling different beans and products under different names. In 1956, Starbucks Coffee Corporation founded its first store in Seattle and began sellingiced tea as well as espresso drinks called Starbuck's Blend (now known as Americano). The company quickly grew throughout Washington State and soon outgrew its original location on Mercer Street in downtown Seattle. In 1976, Starbucks opened its first international store in London, England. Puyallup is a small town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 514 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue Metropolitan Statistical Area. Puyallup's economy is based on agriculture and services. The first Europeans to visit Puyallup were Juan de Fuca and his party in 1592. The town was named for Captain John Pike (1775–1846), who discovered it in 1792 while exploring Puget Sound. In 1801, the Treaty of Simcoe established British residency in what is now King County. The town was incorporated as a village on February 2, 1854, by act of the Washington Territorial Legislature; it became a city on December 3, 1907 when it joined King County. From its beginnings as an agricultural community until World War II, Puyallup's main industry was fishing; however, after the war fishing resources began to dwindle and the industry lost competitiveness with other sectors such as manufacturing and commerce. Today Puyallup's economy revolves around farming activities and providing services to its citizens; although there are still some businesses that focus on fishing or seafood production. As a result of these changes, Puyallup has seen growth over the years but also faces challenges including population attrition due to moving out of rural areas into larger neighborhoods outside of town and competition from neighboring towns that have experienced more recent growth and development opportunities than Puyallup has been able to experience itself

Puyallup is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 4,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle metropolitan area. The Puyallup River forms the town's eastern border and flows north to south through it. The townsite was first settled by German immigrants in 1854 and named after nearby Puyallup Lake. In 1872, gold was discovered on the river bed east of the town, prompting settlers to move there from other parts of rural King County. Goldmining continued until 1907; thereafter, the town became an agricultural center with woolen fabrics and meat products being its mainstay businesses until recent years. In 1916, when King County separated from Washington state and became a separate county, Puyallup became one of its first incorporated settlements. The community has since undergone various name changes (including "Poulsbo" during World War II) but remains local to this day as its most prominent feature is its large incorporation park located on downtown square which serves as both civic center and cultural hub for the surrounding community.
The first European to visit what is now Puyallup was the Spanish explorer Juan Rodríguez de Montero in 1543. The area was explored by the Dutch in 1692 and it was formally incorporated as a town on February 2, 1871.
