The first documented military deployment in the area was a detachment of troops from Tacoma under the command of Lieutenant Colonel George Frazer. In 1872, a detachment led by Major General George Armstrong including artillerymen, engineers, physicians and scouts disembarked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for repairs that lasted until 1875. When it was determined that permanent transportation across Puget Sound would not be available soon enough,armyGHQ ordered Rear Admiral David Dixon Porter to establish an anchorage at Lopez Island in order to transport goods between Seattle and Puget Sound Naval Shipyard using rafts resting on piles anchored offshore. From here, cargo could be unloaded onto ships moored alongshore while sailors manned oarsman’s boats to transfer goods ashore into barges or other vessels waiting for them outside the harbor entrance. By 1889, military deployments had become more common with detachments stationed permanently around Puget Sound Naval Shipyard such as Detachment No 1 commanded by Captain Frank Jellicoe which operated out of Terminal House Annex from 1888 until 1899 when it moved into its present location adjacent to Building A-4 inside Mariners Harbor Park Headquarters Complex where it still resides today (see photo). A third detachment stationed permanently around Puget Sound Naval Shipyard during this time Period was Detachment No 2 commanded by Captain Edward Everett Ellsworth which operated out of Terminal House Annex from 1892 until 1896 when it moved into its present location adjacent to Building A-5 inside Mariners Harbor Park Headquarters Complex where it still resides today (see photo). In 1900 Commanding Officer First Class James Jellicoe organized Marine Barracks Squadron One located adjacent to Building A-6 inside Mariners Harbor Park Headquarters Complex which continues operation today providing barracks services for Sailors assigned aboard Navy Ships currently docked at Pier 91 across Elliott Bay..
Puyallup is a city in Kitsap County, Washington, United States. The population was 7,582 at the 2010 census. The name means "place where crows live." The town site was first occupied by the Puyallup Band of Chippewa Indians in 1833. It was incorporated as a town on November 3, 1909. The Cascades National Park is located just east of Puyallup and includes parts of both the eastern and western watersheds of Puget Sound. Many small lakes are within walking or biking distance of most homes in the city limits including Lake Crescent (just to the northeast of downtown), Eastman Lake, and North Bend Lake. When Europeans arrived in what is now Kitsap County they found much land empty because the local river valleys had been filled with thousands of years of deposited sediments from around Asia and Europe. Diamond Creek flows through central Puyallup into Kitsap Bay which forms Puget Sound after flowing downvalley to join the mainland just north of Seattle; this opened up vast areas for agriculture that remain today. One early settler was John Atlee who founded Auburn along Puget Sound in 1834; Atlee named his town for brother-in-law Sir George Vancouver who had journeyed across Canada during that year's winter before sailing south to visit British Columbia (then part of Canada). Another early settler was Moses Ascott who built a sawmill on Mud Creek about two miles southeast of downtown on what is now Ascott Square. In 1835 John Slattery platted what is now known as Slattery Heights on land he had purchased from David Thompson near present-day Olympia Naval Shipyard off Discovery Passage between Tacoma and Everett; it would become one cornerstones of Tacoma's commercial waterfront district called Pioneer Square today. In 1836 Jens Christensen surveyed a large area extending northwestward from modern day Snohomish County towards Olympia along present day Interstate 5; this became Yakima Valley when it joined with Whatcom County to form King county in 1861 following territorial annexation by Washington Territory under then-President Abraham Lincoln following Ulysses S Grant's victory at Appomattox Court House over Confederate General Robert E Lee and his army there three days earlier that month。 This area would eventually be included within Placer County when it formed biting partuvial gold country adjacent to modern day Goldendale while also providing timberland reaching unto Butte Falls.. In 1840 Adam Chandler acquired title to all Rancho de la Hacienda de las Pulgas – later Oroville National Wildlife Refuge – lying east side drainage drainages draining into Snake River about 12 miles due southwest from modern day Puyallup Junction opening onto current day US 101 between Angle Road Bridge (on Juanita River) & South Deschutes Highway (Oregon Route 99) forming Sanford Beach neighborhood today’ After many attempts by other settlers including Jedediah Smith & Salmon Pass brothers failed due high cost & harsh conditions some prospectors using dogs led by Captain Charles Wickersham developed stagecoach route over snow covered mountains starting at US 101 bridge over Snoqualmie River continuing SW until reached Ferry Road crossing Snake River near present day Unzen Dam where wagon road turned into railroad track

Puyallup is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 5,090 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bellevue–Everett metropolitan area. Puyallup was platted in 1851 and named for General James Puyallup, who served as governor of Oregon during the Gold Rush. Puyallup is located on Puget Sound between Seattle and Bellevue to the east and Tacoma to the west. The town straddles a low ridge that divides what were once two valleys—the Soo Valley to the north and the Wenatchee Valley to the south—and it has an unincorporated community within its limits known as North Puyallup. The name "Puyallup" appears first on a map created by Captain George Vancouver in 1792 when he mapped what are now King County and Pierce County. At that time, Puget Sound stretched from sea level to abovesea level so that Vancouver had no way of knowing which side of his map's lower elevations belonged to which county or township. To avoid confusion, he assigned each location a number instead of their current namesakes (for example: Point Defiance became Point Olympia). In 1851, General James Puyallup was gubernatorial candidate for Oregon in fall elections; his campaign slogan was "Oregon beyond your wildest dreams." Upon learning about Puyallup's whereabouts in southeastern Washington Territory on October 16th (the day before election day), Territorial Governor John McLoughlin ordered all military forces eastward from Olympia so they could be available if necessary should anyone attempt to prevent Puyalluppers from voting or challenging their government via peaceful means. This order aroused much controversy among local residents because there were no roadblocks separating eastern King County from western Pierce County (then still part of Seattle) and many people doubted whether military personnel would be able to effectively enforce ballots if required by Governor McLoughlin. On November 3rd (election day), only 1% of registered voters cast ballots due largely to lack of soapboxes available throughout the territory; however every mail ballot received prior to November 7th showed William Cranch as winner over incumbent Lewis Cass with over 50% of votes cast! In fact even though most residents likely did not vote because they lacked proper ID or knew nothing about how an election worked (in addition many voted early due NLB restrictions against “voting more than once”), this small percentage nonetheless resulted in one man winning an entire state-level race without any effective opposition!
