Puyallup is a census-designated place in Kitsap County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Lynnwood–Spokane Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Puyallup River winds through the town and flows into Lake Washington near Bellevue. The Puyallup Indian Reservation is located in eastern Kitsap County. Puyallup was laid out by Captain George Vancouver on November 3, 1792 as "New Townsite", after his discovery of Puget Sound. He named it for Pierre de la Salle'sstay at Nisqually Bay during his first voyage around America in 1792-93. The first post office opened in 1839, and continued to serve until 1886 when it was renamed Mount Vernon because of President James K. Polk's visit there that year. In 1885, portion of what is now downtown Puyallup were developed as a commercial district called "Downtown." A fire destroyed most of the business district in 1893, but new businesses began to emerge around this time including the Olympia Hotel and several stores on First Avenue NW which are still standing today (the building now houses the Kitsap County Sheriff's Department). That same year saw another development: construction began on the Seattle–Tacoma Railway which connected Tacoma with Seattle via Lynnwood and Everett; Puyallup became one of its original terminus points. By 1903, most residents had moved away from Downtown to become suburbanized along First Avenue NW and Highway 99W where they continue to live today apart from a few thousand people who still call Downtown home (though some retail development has taken place within walking distance of both courthouses). In 1911 an expressway bypassed Downtown; since then only a few buildings remain from Pioneer Square before turning east onto Interstate 5S nearsoundview Park before terminating at Sammamish interchange just south of corporate headquarters for Microsofts Northrop Grumman division etc.. Today much of what once constituted Downtown has been demolished or replaced by subdivisions such as Lakeside Heights/Lakefront Place (formerly known as HarborCenter), Goldendale/Northgate Highlands/Southgate Hills etc.– leaving much evidence behindof how different life may have been back then if not for Interstate 5S running right through town center contrasting sharply against today's architecture which often tries hard to blend into built environment rather than stand out like an Active Schist site

Puyallup is a small town in King County, Washington, located about 20 miles (32 km) southeast of Seattle. The population was 2,940 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bellevue–Everett–Puyallup Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settlers in what is now Puyallup were relatives of Peter Orleck who arrived from Russia in 1851 and founded the Orleck Colony on Puget Sound. After many years of growth and change, Puyallup incorporation as a village occurred on November 12, 1909. The name may be derived from a Native American word meaning "place where salmon run." The early residents were farmers and fishermen with some lumbering activity along the Northwest coast; however, by 1920 only one business in town operated Commercial Fisheries products which includes salmon processing and retail sales to consumers. In 1963, Boeing bought an 80% interest in the local paper mill which closed down in 1969 but left behind evidence that Boeing had been working on building its new airfield there for over 25 years before it was finally built just outside of town limits – today only remnants remain from when this airport was once a key factor for Commerce Valley Growth during much of the late 19th century. A few other businesses also thrived during this time including two grocery stores open since 1915 and three furniture stores prior to their closures within a few years after prohibition ended in 1933. In recent decades, Puyallup has seen steady decline due to increasing suburbanization and competition from neighboring Everett as well as more developed communities such as Bellevue and Redmondoutside its borders- both of which have larger populations than Puyallup currently enjoys thanks to their respective expansions into rural areas eastward into King County whilealso annexing smaller villages like Napa Valley around them.
