The history of the Seattle National Guard is significant for a number of reasons. The city of Seattle was founded in 1889, and the first organized National Guard unit was formed in 1902. The City Council authorized the formation of a National Guard unit on November 7, 1912. The first national guard unit to serve in Seattle was Company A, 2nd Battalion, Washington Infantry Regiment. The company served honorably until World War I when it mobilized and fought in France and Belgium. After the war ended, Company A disbanded but continued to serve as an armory reserve battalion until 1921 when it became part of the 1st Battalion, Seattle Regiment which still serves today. Since its inception as an armory reserve battalion there have been a number of changes to the organization and mission of the Seattle National Guard Unit; these have included service in both World Wars II (1939-1945) and Korean War (1950-1953). Throughout its history there has also been significant accomplishment including numerous medals awarded to members of the unit including two Presidential Unit Citations (PUCs). Additionally, some units have even been activated for conventional military operations such as Operation Neptune’s Spear which took place during Desert Storm in 1991. In recent years however there has been growth within theSeattle National guard with plans to raise money for veterans' charities through social media marketing campaigns and donations from individuals or businesses. Today's Seahawks are one of several professional sports teams that were founded or Have roots tracing back to military organizations like artillery batteries or cavalry companies that served during various wars between 1855-1890 inclusive. These units served in various capacities during the Revolutionary War. From 1777-1783, there were also 2 regiments of national guardsmen called the New York Provincial Militia (NYPM). These units only lasted for about 6 months before being disbanded. After the Revolution ended, many soldiers returned home and needed new equipment or supplies for their businesses and homes. This is when Congress passed an act on November 15th, 1784 naming a group of individuals who would be responsible for purchasing any new firearms and ammunition from manufactures in order to maintain public safety. This group was known as the Committee of Inspection. From this committee came what is now know as the National Guard Bureau (NGB). The NGB became operational on October 15th, 1800 after several years of planning and effort by President John Adams. At its peak membership numbered over 100,000 soldiers across all services! In 1802-1803 there was also a large increase in donations due to peace negotiations between France and Great Britain over control of Louisiana territory; this led to increased sales at armories all across America! Numerous organizations have been established throughout our nation’s history because it has been necessary for members of our military to unite behind one banner: United States Military Academy cadets receive their diplomas from West Point while Air Force officers receive basic training at Lackland AFB Texas; Navy officers get recruits trained aboard Naval Base Pearl Harbor Hawaii while Marine Corps Officers attend boot camp at Quantico Virginia Beach; Coast Guard Officers attend Sea Service School at Annapolis Maryland while Navigators receive instruction from Naval Aviator schools along with deckhands upon completion rates reaching 95%. It is truly amazing how these relationships have formed over time without ever forgetting where we come from or what we do for our country!
